El planteamiento personaje gruñón y antisocial que se tropieza con persona distinta que le ayuda a sacar su parte más humana. Es bastante recurrente en el cine y puede llegar a funcionar muy bien. Eastwood le saca un gran partido a este esquema en su última película gracias a su propia brillante actuación y a la del resto de actores y actrices que participan en la película.
