Domine, non sum dignus. The Sermon Page of Fr. Matthew Tucker. Monthly Archives: January 2015. January 30, 2015. It’s Super Bowl Sunday, of course, our biggest and brightest non-official national holiday. Something like 100 million people will watch the Seahawks take on the Patriots; I will be one of them, and since I don’t like either team, you … Continue reading →. January 23, 2015. Domine, non sum dignus. The Sermon Page of Fr. Matthew Tucker. Pentecost 7 →. July 3, 2015. In first century Palestine, one’s basic claim to (station) derives from birth and is determined by the circumstances of birth. Technically, this is called ascribed honor. In today’s episode, the people are fully aware of Jesus’ ascribed honor. Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us? Just who does he think he is? You are co...

Tim a little boy of eight was playing in his yard when he saw the farmer and asked, ‘What’ve you got in your trailer? 8217; ‘Manure,’ Farmer Evans replied. ‘What are you going to do with it? But that doesn’t mean that Jesus is never a bit demanding. Remember these gems? Last week we heard Jesus ask us who we say He i...

Domine, non sum dignus. The Sermon Page of Fr. Matthew Tucker. Pentecost 6 →. June 26, 2015. In the Safe Church classes we have to take now, we are taught not to touch people, which is somehow both utter foolishness and strangely sound advice. Touching another person can have many connotations, from loving to hating to flirty to creepy to flirty and creepy. We’ve seen way to much bad touching, criminal and evil, and not enough of the touch that blesses, heals. This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Anglican Ramblings: March 2011
http://anglicanramblings.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 28, 2011. Lent 3 - Spiritual Starvation. Today’s readings are filled with images of hunger and thirst. We hear about the Israelites wandering the desert who have become so thirsty that they begin to lose faith in Moses. They demand water from Moses and begin to wonder if they will die. In the Gospel we encounter Jesus who is tired and thirsty from a long journey and meets a woman at the well where they both come to parch their thirst. These images of hunger and thirst resonate in Lent.

Monday, February 28, 2011. Epiphany 8A - No one is beyond redemption. 8220;Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? These are kind words from our Lord in the midst of his difficult Sermon on the Mount. Over the past few Sundays we have been challenged by Jesus to live Godly lives in ways that are radically different from what society tells us to do. 8220;Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me...

Anglican Ramblings: December 2010

Monday, December 27, 2010. St Stephen and The First Sunday After Christmas. You may have noticed something was different this morning. The bulletin lists today as the Feast of St. Stephen and. The First Sunday after Christmas. Most of us are not used to a Sunday being the Feast of a Saint. The Prayer Book tells us that Feasts of our Lord, and every Sunday is a Feast of our Lord Jesus Christ, these take precedence over the celebration of Saints. You may be asking yourself, why would we want to? St Stephen...

Anglican Ramblings: Lent 5A
http://anglicanramblings.blogspot.com/2011/05/lent-5a.html
Thursday, May 12, 2011. During Lent we encounter death in the appointed prayers in readings and they makes sense when seen in the context of the Liturgical year. During Lent we are preparing for what we know will happen at the end of Holy Week. Jesus will be betrayed by a friend, condemned by the world and put to death in a shameful way. This is only bearable year after year because we know the Resurrection awaits on Easter Sunday. Lent is also the time were we hear about why death is in the world. In wh...

Epiphany 2A - The Mr. Wilson sermon. 8220;Jesus saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea.And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately. They left their nets and followed him…Jesus saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Proper 20C - Catholic Biblical Interpretation. Proper 20C - Luke 16:1-13. Many people can tell you without a moment’s hesitation what their favorite parable is. Most often it is the Good Shepherd or the Good Samaritan. For all the times I have heard people tell me what their favorite parable is, not one person has ever mention this one: the Parable of Steward. Knowing that Jesus used speech about money as a metaphor, combined with His stinging statement on the incompatibility...

Anglican Ramblings: May 2011

Monday, May 16, 2011. Easter 4A - No Man is an Island. The reading from Acts gives us an amazing example of what the early Church was like. A short time after the Ascension of Jesus and the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the Church is growing by leaps and bounds. St Peter has been preaching and people have been converting on the spot. For us Christians, this does not seem all that radical, but it really was. As Americans who are culturally steeped in a certain type of Protestantism we often time...

Anglican Ramblings: Maundy Thursday
http://anglicanramblings.blogspot.com/2011/05/maundy-thursday.html
Thursday, May 12, 2011. Maundy Thursday is a multi layered feast with several things going on it. It marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum, the services that make up the time where we liturgically celebrate and make present Christ’s betrayal, death, burial and resurrection. Today we heard in Exodus about the Passover, and we see how this all adds up to the new Passover for Christians. The Passover is a feast where the Israelites remember their deliverance from slavery. The first time I went to church...

Anglican Ramblings: Easter 3

Thursday, May 12, 2011. When seminaries teach people preparing for the priesthood, they are charged by the Episcopal Church to teach them about Holy Scripture. Even though the subject is labeled simply Holy Scripture, all seminaries divide the course work between the Old Testament and the New Testament. This makes sense, as different tools are needed to really get into each Testament. Study of the Old Testament involves knowledge of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. Is it 36, 46 or 49 books? Unfortunately for u...

Domine, non sum dignus | The Sermon Page of Fr. Matthew Tucker
Domine, non sum dignus. The Sermon Page of Fr. Matthew Tucker. March 24, 2018. That turn didn’t come without reason. Of course, the Jewish authorities already had it out for Jesus, and the Romans, while not paying too much attention, never liked a trouble-maker in their midst. But then a few things happened on that first Holy Week that ramped up the drama. How do you get rid of a meddlesome God? The question then becomes, How do we get rid of a meddlesome God? And so we attempt to get rid of our meddleso...
