After making jewelry for more years than I care to count, I've finally come to the realization that it might be nice to create collections of jewelry as opposed to jumping from one random stone to the next just because I want to bezel every stone I see! So I reigned myself in this past month, and came up with these two collections so far. Beautiful Willow Creek jasper that was part of this group. In Astoria, Oregon. Friday, February 21, 2014. It's no surprise. at least not to me. that I'm back with more stones. I sat down with my favorite stone dealer yesterday, someone I've done business with for many years, and came home with a treasure trove! I'll probably stop buying stones for just a little bit. Wednesday, July 31, 2013. Some daughter time and 2 new brooches. I used the Montana agate from the previous post. Pairing it with a .22ct rose cut diamond, and a cool little stick pearl. Mostly sterling, with an 18kt gold bezel surrounding the diamond, and 14kt gold rivets through the pearl. I'm really pleased with it, and the backside of the agate brings into crisp relief what appears on the front as the fuzzy insides of the stone. Does anyone else see a cartoon character here? Monday, December 16, 2013. I've taken a loooong break from blogging and there's a 6 week back up of brooches. With 2 weeks left in the etsymetal brooch-a-week challenge year, here are brooches #45 -50. 45 is a lightweight sterling silver dotted "wreath" in time for the holidays. Well, it was in time for the holidays when I completed it 6 weeks ago. 46 features a dark Montana agate set in sterling with three 14kt gold rivets. Brooch # 49 is a lovely taupe fossil palm cab. Wednesday, January 29, 2014. I purchased these Sonoran Sunrise cabs from a fellow jeweler recently. (Thank you, Karen! Sonoran Sunrise is the apt name given to the the red mineral, cuprite ( copper bearing) in chrysocolla. It's found in Mexico, and do these colors ever "pop" together! Monday, September 16, 2013. Last of the summer roses, another batch of brooches. In Portland, summer is tip toeing into Fall. Days of rain interspersed with hot sun. The tomatoes are about done and the cooler, wetter, weather is causing them to split. I just cut the few remaining blooms from my Evelyn rose. they are sending off the most wonderful fragrance. I've finished 3 new brooches since my last post 3 weeks ago. Is a sterling silver and glass combination modeled by a lovely little kudu gazelle.

Tuesday, August 27, 2013. An entire month's worth. Has it been a month since my last post? Why, that's 4 new brooches! A month ago I had a small window of opportunity wedged between house guests going and coming. It was clearly the moment to cut up the old cookie tin I had stashed away for just such an emergency. Don't let the heart fool you, those "ruffles" could put an eye out. Brooch #31. Pretty rudimentary, but quick! These next three brooches took a bit more time. Finally, brooch #34.

Saturday, April 5, 2014. A trip to the museum. While in Denver this week visiting my daughter, I was introduced to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The museum has a really nice permanent gem and mineral collection with Colorado rocks as well all kinds of other stuff. I was intrigued with the rhodocrosite that is native to the state. Lusting after is probably a more accurate description I think. The middle photo shows the rhodocrosite along side florite. Of course, I can't resist the jaspers.
