Eugene Wine Cellars LLC. was conceived by Bruce Biehl in 1998, and in 1999 the “Urban Winery” was established in the Whitaker neighborhood near downtown Eugene, Oregon. The first vintages were bottled and labeled at the winery in the fall of 2001. Bruce has been growing wine grapes all over the state since his beginnings in the fall of 1978. His company AREA Inc. has been developing and managing hundreds of vineyard operations for other growers, wineries and our label ever since then.

Mike and Pam bought 36 acres of unplanted land in Umpqua Valley's Winston, Oregon, on the Umpqua River in 2000, with hopes of planting grape vines to harvest and use to make wine for a business during his retirement years. In 2005, our Freed Estate Vineyards 2002 Merlot won the Bronze medal at the Oregon State Fair.
