Embach Times: July 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 25 July 2013. Time for a "Fest" with a difference. It is the season of “Fests”. Benches and tables laid out, marquees erected, chickens skewered, beer barrels rolled in, musical instruments tuned and invitations delivered to every household. The band will play, the benches groan, the beer will flow and fun will be had by all. The marquee will be packed to overflowing and filled with conversation. Audience participation is essential. Would the Mexican acrobat get four Embachers to support hi...

Embach Times: December 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, 21 December 2013. Colour blind in a red and black world. Embach as it looks today. Early in the new year there will be an election for the local council which covers the industrial village in the valley, Lend, and the farming village of Embach 500m above. The result is a foregone conclusion. Of the 2500 residents, those in Lend will vote red (socialist) and here in Embach they will vote black (conservative). The reds will win more seats on account of the bigger population. Being an incomer, an ...

Embach Times: June 2014

Monday, 2 June 2014. Bride stolen at the fairytale wedding! Fairytales can come true. For 20 or so years the family M from Cologne have been coming to Embach for their winter holidays, often with friends. Mr and Mrs M brought along their daughter Freddy and over the years became part of the village’s winter scene. However, the family M never came in the summer. First, the gathering in the village centre: the drinks flow and the band plays. Everyone is lined up behind bride and groom in strict order f...

Embach Times: August 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 18 August 2013. Flower power on the balcony. After a glorious few weeks of summer, the balcony flowers in Embach are a real picture. Back in spring, the garden centres were, as always, thronged with buyers sorting through rack after rack of nascent blooms to find just the right colours and varieties. Hours of planting, watering, feeding, dead-heading and nurturing have now paid off as a crescendo of colour cascades from many of the village homes. Austrian village festivals follow set traditions t...

Embach Times: Eyes down for a new view
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2015/06/eyes-down-for-new-view.html
Saturday, 27 June 2015. Eyes down for a new view. A spectacular day. Air clear as glass. Embach’s “house mountain”, The Rauchkögel beckons. Calendar quality glimpses of the Hochkönig in the distance as the climb begins. Two and a half hours later, standing beneath the shining aluminium cross at the summit; there’s a huge, magnificent view in all directions. The Almenrausch - daubs of colour splashed across the mountain. Bread with cheese or speck and maybe a beer before strolling back to the village.

Embach Times: October 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, 27 October 2013. Many leaves were blown away by then föhn, but those that remain are a stunning copper and gold display. You might think that the Embachers all have some form of nervous tick. Walk through the village and hardly a car passes by without the driver giving a twitch of the hand or a finger raised in salute from the steering wheel. The response should be a brief raising of the hand or a mere lifting of the chin. Knowing which to use, is a key part of local etiquette. Cows are enjoying ...

Embach Times: September 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 25 September 2013. Sunsets in Embach at this time of year are bloody affairs. The sky a fiery mess of red and orange, flaring around the edge of the few innocent cloudlets, all sharply outlined by the jagged mountains along the Salzach valley. This drama is often preceded by shafts of light beaming mistily between the peaks like a spots on a dusty stage set. The air is so clear, the surrounding mountains appear zum greifen nah. Embach Times: The Pot of Gold
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-pot-of-gold.html
Sunday, 26 July 2015. The Pot of Gold. Embach receives plenty of weather. Not just balmy summer days, or brilliant, crisp winter sun, but every so often, boisterous, rough weather. Perched on a plateau 1000m above sea level, Embach is easy prey to the elements blasting along the Salzach valley from both east and west. From the south, the Rauris valley opens out just on the corner of our plateau bringing occasional hot föhn winds and sometimes Sahara sand. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Find accommod...

Embach Times: June 2013
http://embachtimes.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, 28 June 2013. The mystery of the mountain fan dancer. The chapel at Maria Elend. OK, so it’s not been the best of weather this past few days. Last week, baking hot, this week damp and grey. But this weather has its own mystery and charm. Because Embach is pretty high up, we don’t have to gaze upwards to see the clouds. They scud down the village street, brush the church steeple. You can literally have your head in the clouds. The Kirchbach chuckling its way to four capital cities and ten countries.
