Becky's 2011 Rolex Report: Day 2 Quickies
http://rolexreport11.blogspot.com/2011/04/day-2-quickies.html
An ongoing report from the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event. Friday, April 29, 2011. I felt like a celebrity this morning….I got to be a guest on the Horse Radio Network! That’s right: I was interviewed by none other than Glenn the Geek himself. Jimmy Wofford was the guest before me….so in a way, my day was book-ended by JW! Here’s Glenn and Jen:. After my brush with radio stardom, we settled down to watch dressage, and I was able to see Hannah Sue Burnett put in a respectable dressage test.

Law(s) Clinic: Contra-Dressage and a Happy Coincidence
http://lawsclinic.blogspot.com/2009/05/contra-dressage-and-happy-coincidence.html
Monday, June 1, 2009. Contra-Dressage and a Happy Coincidence. Because of how impressed I was with J and Kelley’s lesson with Brooke Cramton. I decided to take a lesson with her Monday (since both Laws were full). That way, I’d have a private dressage lesson, then be able to process it while I watched the Laws teach private dressage lesson. A day of dressage! The lesson with Brooke was just as good as I had hoped. She started out watching me warm up, and soon began commenting: straighten up! Brooke reali...

Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews): Day 5: The Stadium Test
http://adultclinic.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-5-stadium-test.html
Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews). Sunday, June 21, 2009. Day 5: The Stadium Test. The last day of the clinic, Rainey set up a stadium jumping course for us. She asked the first group to treat it like a real SJ event—which, of course, put the pressure on. Geesh. So I got a little performance anxiety. I’m afraid to say that Wrong-Way Rickly reared her ugly head, causing a little meltdown in the middle of the course…so we were eliminated. Overall, what a fantastic experience!

Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews): Day 2: Cross Country Gymnastics
http://adultclinic.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-2-cross-country-gymnastics.html
Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews). Thursday, June 18, 2009. Day 2: Cross Country Gymnastics. We first did some XC jumps like the banks, ditches, and water, and then we added a pole, then an X, and later a vertical before and after, sometimes at an angle, making us think “turn” as we were landing. How often must I be told before I “get” it? Great quote from Rainey: “Put your brains in your legs! Rainey noted that “soft hands” didn’t really have to do with th...Yesterday I was...

Karen O'Connor Clinic(s): Day 4: Cross Country
http://kocclinic.blogspot.com/2010/05/day-4-cross-country.html
Monday, May 31, 2010. Day 4: Cross Country. Karen began the day asking riders to show off their galloping positions…and then she asked them to change gaits, do shoulder in, haunches in, etc. while still in galloping position. “you should be able to do anything in this position! 8221; Riders had to lower their heads below their butts without moving their legs. “Feel those quads burn! Karen and David call the place on the withers where the hands go “home plate”. It’s big enough! We worked on banks, and I n...

Karen O'Connor Clinic(s): January 2009
http://kocclinic.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 12, 2009. What a Long Strange Trip it's Been! Now, part of the reason that my head is exploding (even still) is that some of what I learned flew in the face of what I’d learned elsewhere, and what I’d been practicing both on my own and with other clinicians/instructors. What happens when ideas and world view collide? I have to say that I was a bit…overwhelmed? Karen wanted us to have our hands on the horse’s withers: NO CREST RELEASES IN XC. We practiced raising and lowering our bodies fr...

Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews): Day 3: Stadium Schooling
http://adultclinic.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-3-stadium-schooling.html
Area V Adult Rider Clinic with Rainey Sealey (formerly Andrews). Friday, June 19, 2009. Day 3: Stadium Schooling. Isn’t it funny how I’m getting less and less afraid of XC obstacles, but I retain my terror of stadium jumps? Once again, I’m going to have to work on this leg thing. Like Jimmy says, without that anchor, we’re pretty much adrift! That, and use my LEGS before my ARMS/BODY. Paddy had no lesson today, and I hacked him back in the back—I’d never been there, because N and BN don’...Day 5: Th...

Kathleen Zins Clinic: Day One: Stadium Jumping
http://ktzclinic.blogspot.com/2008/11/day-one-stadium-jumping.html
Saturday, November 22, 2008. Day One: Stadium Jumping. Kathleen began the session by asking the riders what it took to move up—and, conversely, what keeps you at a level. Several of the riders answered thoughtfully: a lot of impulsion….keeping your horse underneath yourself….lots of leg….technique…remembering stuff…. Kathleen nodded, then told them her version, which encompassed all of what the riders were saying:. Kathleen asked another interesting question: Why do horses let us ride them? So every day ...

Nick Larkin Clinic: August 2009
http://nicklarkinclinic.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 15, 2009. It's All About the Canter! It can be hot in TX, but we were lucky; a breeze wafted through the trees, and for at least part of the day, the clouds covered the sun. The groups today were going to work on stadium jumping. In typical Nick Larkin fashion, each group began with "Righty-Oh. Tell me what you've done and where you're trying to go.". Nick watched the first group, the preliminary group, warm up, and while watching each rider, he makes the following observations:. After f...
