Everyday's a trip

Here's to enjoying the journey. 11 July, 2010. One of the biggest changes I’ve noticed in Malawi is not a visible one. People I’ve spoken to have a lot more confidence in government. But at the same time, they have a lot less fear about critiquing government about things they think could improve. This is a complete difference from 2000/1 when most folks wouldn’t really engage in discussions about government, past or present, unless it was positive. After 30 years of dictatorship, who could blame them?

Everyday's a trip: June 2008

http://www.everydaysatrip.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Here's to enjoying the journey. Malawi, take two. So this first entry is pretty self-indulgent, I’d say (maybe also indulgent for the few who’ve seen the scenes). I’m basically just trying to catalogue some of the changes I’ve noticed… They’re many. Maybe a little. Development schemes? Shockingly, I’ve actually seen police patrol cars. What! We should be leading him to a retirement cruise that permanently sails the globe, never ever docking. Ever! I’m almost afraid to write this on the internet, fi...

Everyday's a trip: July 2008

http://www.everydaysatrip.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Here's to enjoying the journey. I’m actually writing from Heathrow… just got off the 11 hour flight from Joburg. I’ll be back home in about… 9 or 10 hours. But I thought I’d give a final. Seeing as I haven’t written all that much generally. It was a great trip, at a very good time for me. I managed to get 31 interviews in the end. I did about 20 of them in the last two weeks. But I got the job done. Honestly I feel like I need a vacation. And I’m really sick of talking to people so much. Just for the day.

Everyday's a trip: Ah Bookmart, how I love thee, let me count the ways!

http://www.everydaysatrip.blogspot.com/2010/06/ah-bookmart-how-i-love-thee-let-me.html

Here's to enjoying the journey. Ah Bookmart, how I love thee, let me count the ways! 22 June, 2010. Last time I was here, there was this great little used book store/swap not far from where I stay called the Bookmart. Loved that place. Went there a couple times a week. So this time, day one, I went to check it out. I’d been worried it might have closed (for how many people have the ravenous appetite for books that I do? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). As if this trip werent already perfect.

Everyday's a trip: Now that's a well-used flip-flop

http://www.everydaysatrip.blogspot.com/2010/06/now-thats-well-used-flip-flop.html

Here's to enjoying the journey. Now that's a well-used flip-flop. There's no claiming that the owner of this flip-flop didn't do his or her best to keep it in use as long as humanly possible! Take that, disposable consumerism! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). As if this trip werent already perfect. No theme, just randomness. Ah Bookmart, how I love thee, let me count the way. Now thats a well-used flip-flop. Wow, there’s some serious cultural protection goin. Childcare is a beautiful thing.

Everyday's a trip: No theme, just randomness

http://www.everydaysatrip.blogspot.com/2010/06/no-theme-just-randomness.html

Here's to enjoying the journey. No theme, just randomness. Here are Mumi and Mwelu, keeping the family store down the street. Here's Linneah, keeping up with all that's going on in the tobacco industry in Malawi. She so takes after me. A heap of chimanga. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). As if this trip werent already perfect. No theme, just randomness. Ah Bookmart, how I love thee, let me count the way. Now thats a well-used flip-flop. Wow, there’s some serious cultural protection goin.

I Trip Over Things: February 2010

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Friday, February 19, 2010. Insert Clever Title Here. Though sidetracked temporarily by the epic snowfall in the DC area, I have continued the running training program. I even dragged myself out of bed to run on Thursday before work. Week 3, day 2 tomorrow. Two bits of commercial-related commentary:. 1 Mazda is advertising some sort of car as "wicked fun." Go New England slang! Saturday, February 13, 2010. I Trip Over Things: December 2009

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Thursday, December 31, 2009. Hopes for the new year? All-in-all, a thoroughly low-key New Year's Eve. Never a holiday that I have enjoyed tons, today spent working, doing a few crosswords, watching Hitchcock movies on TCM, and winding sock yarn into balls (yes, really - I got a ball winder. For Christmas, though do not own a swift, at least not yet). Tuesday, December 29, 2009. The most memorable moment of my time in NH? Wednesday, December 23, 2009.

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Friday, October 29, 2010. Not for me the dogma of the period. Preaching order and a sure conclusion. And no not for me the prissy. Formality or tight-lipped fence. Of the colon and as for the semi-. Colon call it what it is. A poser at the bar. Feigning liberation with one hand. Tightening the leash with the other. Oh give me the headlong run-on. Fragment dangling its feet. Over the edge give me the sly. Comma with its come-hither. Oh if I must.

I Trip Over Things: The End of Summer

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2010/09/end-of-summer.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Sunday, September 5, 2010. The End of Summer. What questions do you ask (can you ask) to find out if the administration/supervision situation is good or nutty ahead of time? This is the next sort of thing to figure out. Now that I've had really good supervision, I would like to continue that. I've been spoiled, in a way. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Kate (Peace Corps Volunteer). I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Saturday, December 11, 2010. I was a Women's Studies major. While reorganizing some things on my bookshelf today, I came across a paper with the following written on it:. Is heterosexual marriage a patriarchal institution inconsistent with the recognition of women as persons? Re-imagining families as groups of adults who have responsibility for a child regardless of sexual relationships.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

I Trip Over Things: Kids & Bullying & the "It Gets Better" Project

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2010/10/kids-bullying-it-gets-better-project.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Friday, October 22, 2010. Kids and Bullying and the "It Gets Better" Project. Now I am a teacher. Ever since my first year of teaching, when I was an intern, my students have come to me when they were feeling threatened. Maybe it's because I'm still awkward enough that they can see the shadow of the bullied girl inside. Maybe it's because I will not let them say derogatory things to one another or make comments like "That's so gay.". If you want to ...

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Sunday, May 16, 2010. I took a class on Emily Dickinson in college, one of the best classes I took. We met at her house (! In Amherst, MA. I learned a ton and having access to her house and the Evergreens next door was an excellent side-effect. ED seems to be pretty popular these days, with a few articles published in the NYT recently:. I Trip Over Things: November 2009

http://itripoverthings.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

I Trip Over Things. More often than i like to admit to. Monday, November 23, 2009. A Rant About Pants. Why, oh why, can they not sell women's pants the way that they sell men's pants? Men's pants are sold by waist and inseam. Women's pants are sold in arbitrary sizes that differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. If they would tell me things about the measurements of the waist, inseam, hip, and rise, I would have a much better idea about which size would be mine. Anywho. Happy Thanksgiving to you! I've b...

Everyday's A Story

Thursday, October 27, 2011. Posted by Josh THO. Links to this post. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. The Day I Pooped My Pants. So I've swayed back and fourth about whether I should write this one down or not. It's defiantly one of those stories I find better forgotten and at the same time, it's just too funny to keep to myself. So both with and against my better judgment I shall share the last time I soiled myself. I've thought long and hard about it and I really don't know why I joined the golf. At school is...

Everyday's a Sunday

Everyday's a Sunday. Walking with Jesus in the Ups and Downs of LIfe. Journey out of parish ministry. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. August 7, 2015. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us be glad and rejoice in it. (Psalm 118:24). This was the day that I ate a beautiful vegetarian pie on a sunny winter’s day. This was the day that I drove along the freeway with the music turned up way too loud and sang at the top of my voice. This was the day that God loved me in spite of who I am; again.
