Vinyl Mine: MacRock Day 2 - the party's over
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2009/04/macrock-day-2-partys-over.html
The songs of my life. Sunday, April 05, 2009. MacRock Day 2 - the party's over. Friday's shows seemed so much better than Saturday for me. Maybe it was the fatigue kicking in - ameliorated no doubt by the bad night's sleep at the Budget Inn motel or whatever it was called - stanky room, rough sheets, thin walls and I found a puddle in the bathroom from somewhere undefined. I got back in time for Whatever Brains. On to Clementine where the initial novelty of Eternal Vacations. 160;totally turned me off&#...

Vinyl Mine: Shoeshine Boys are the Intellectuals of The Subordinate Masses
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/03/shoeshine-boys-are-intellectuals-of.html
The songs of my life. Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Shoeshine Boys are the Intellectuals of The Subordinate Masses. Windows" - Rocco Deluca. This may be Mr. Deluca's entry fee into how the Elliot Smith Veneration Society. A pretty piece with an understated lo-fi slide about some magical realm where you can float around like a ghost looking at everything. Either that or the windows are his girlfriend's eyes. No Sleep" - DZ Deathrays. To go along with it. Comes off a fine similarly titled EP. Wow, what a grea...

Vinyl Mine: Just Getting Started
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/02/just-getting-started.html
The songs of my life. Saturday, February 11, 2012. More best songs of the moment. Seven Stars - Air. While the whole concept album kind of drags, this cut stands on its own quite well as a sort of Floydian/Ziggy ode to rocketcraft. Sick - The Twilight Sad. A love song apparently sung to a dying person, you can't get more depressing than this. Lovely drum track that builds through the song. Sounds similar to that one Radiohead song that I can stand. Ready On The Line - Big Sir. Hey Joe - Liz Green. Last D...

Vinyl Mine: Oh, my death car
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/03/oh-my-death-car.html
The songs of my life. Saturday, March 10, 2012. Oh, my death car. More excursion into recently released music. Generals" - The Mynabirds. Garage punk anthem for a protest. For Awhile" - Mansions on the Moon. This is a chillout dream-pop style single that has a degree of stylization and warmth to distinguish it from the pack. Pale Blue Eyes" - The Kills. Jesus Christ" - My Best Fiend. A country spiritual with indie attitude. Matchstick" - Amercan Royalty. Heavy Flowers" - Blaudzun. Eyes" - The Kabeedies.

Vinyl Mine: That is EXACTLY why I've put together this eulogy
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/03/that-is-exactly-why-ive-put-together.html
The songs of my life. Thursday, March 22, 2012. That is EXACTLY why I've put together this eulogy. Andrew in Drag" - The Magnetic Fields. In The Yard" - Bowerbirds. While much of the album put me to sleep, I think this has one of the prettiest choruses released this year. Apple Pie" - Nelson Can. Absurdist rock at its finest. Plus there's whistling and it's not a pretentious as Andrew Bird. Kill Kill Kill" - Vacant Fever. The Shakedown" - Yellow Ostrich. Brave Women" - Baby Eagle and the Proud Mothers.

Vinyl Mine: Computer Love
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/04/computer-love.html
The songs of my life. Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Never heard of Agent Side Grinder but I hear they're big in Sweden. Like the girl with the dragon tattoo. Comparisons to a certain Deutsche group creep in though - the cover image for the ASG album kinda makes a pretty broad hint, too. Didn't Sweden try to conquer Germany? Well, then this is the second invasion. Gotta listen to the rest of their album. Links: Agent Side Grinder site. Kinda makes me think of Depeche Mode, too. Follow me on Twitter.

Vinyl Mine: Pro-Bullies, Unite
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/03/pro-bullies-unite.html
The songs of my life. Sunday, March 18, 2012. These are the tunes that have been schlocking my werld. Dig! Into Giants" - Patrick Wilson. Never heard of this guy until now but he creates a piece of chamber pop here that rivals few. I'm kind of reminded about what first drew me to Shearwater's early stuff and there's a bit of Earlimart here. So, very pleasing to the ears. It's a teaser for an upcoming album which I'm definitely going to be looking out for. All The Rowboats" - Regina Spektor. I really want...

Vinyl Mine: It's pickled pepper, asshole
http://vinyljourney.blogspot.com/2012/03/its-pickled-pepper-asshole.html
The songs of my life. Monday, March 05, 2012. It's pickled pepper, asshole. More selections from my personal Top 40. Ge nesis" - Grimes. While I'm not so hot on the rest of this buzz record, I love this heaping helping of originality. Simon Says" - Dare Dukes with Jim White. Not exactly sure what Jim White is doing on this track but it's the best one of Dare's latest collection. Elliot Smith fans should take note. Shout it In" - Dirty Ghosts. Lions of Least" - Pontiak. Settle Down" - Yalls. That is EXACT...
