Mountain Mama: January 2010
http://pcj.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 21, 2010. What has been easier than I expected:. Sibling adjustment issues, months 0-9. Really, during that time, there was exactly one epic tantrum that I could trace directly to Lea's totally animal-like jealousy of her sister. They had both fallen asleep in the car, and when we got home, it became clear that Susanna needed to nurse immediately. With me and watch the world go by, sometimes for 45 minutes or more, at a coffee shop or friend's house. How about that. Sibling adjustment i...

Mountain Mama: September 2009
http://pcj.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, September 29, 2009. I was talking to my friend Lindsay (mother of Rylan. Lea's best buddy, met at school), as I have many times before, about how much my mental health was suffering during the summer of 2007, when Lea was 7-9 months old and we knew NOBODY in town and a two-minute chat with a barista. Every now and then was all that was passing for my social life. I say that flippantly, but really: I was in some serious trouble that summer. Except, she's still only two. Two! But she gets right in...

Veins of Ink, Calves of Steel: January 2009
http://veinsofink.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Veins of Ink, Calves of Steel. The fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs. -Homer Simpson. Thursday, January 22, 2009. My second niece was born about 4:30 this morning. She weighs eight pounds, including her mullet, reports my relatively tired sister, who went into labor at 7:30 pm but still managed to watch all three hours of Lost! Jeez, I was exhausted just from THAT myself! Posted by E.S.C. Links to this post. Sunday, January 11, 2009. I can't get accustomed to the ide...

Veins of Ink, Calves of Steel: March 2008
http://veinsofink.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Veins of Ink, Calves of Steel. The fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs. -Homer Simpson. Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Not my preferred terrain for a stroll. In non-metaphorical news, the A-10 hoops tourney is at Boardwalk Hall in AC this weekend, Holly's in town the next weekend, and my fantasy baseball draft is the weekend after that. And a lot of work in between. Posted by E.S.C. Links to this post. Tuesday, March 4, 2008. So I told him . Not effectively, no.).

dorks, not nerds: Less depressing stuff
http://hwong14.blogspot.com/2009/08/less-depressing-stuff.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2009. Last week we had a patient who came into the ER with chest pain. 33 years old, otherwise previously healthy, though with a significant family history of cardiac disease. Chest pain, and in the ER, he went into V-fib. No, I do not generally get my medical news from CNN; however, I was post-call and just doing some fluff reading on the Internet.). Our patient did great! So of COURSE he wants to keep her alive and on the ventilator - he wants her money! And finally, I walked home t...

dorks, not nerds: August 2009
http://hwong14.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 20, 2009. I used it a lot this past weekend, with great results. Here's a recap:. Saturday, dinner with my friend and bridesmaid Karen, her husband Jake, and their 2-year-old daughter, Lily:. Brushchetta as an appetizer: Tomatoes, diced onion, fresh basil, a splash of good balsamic vinegar, a drizzle of EVOO, and salt and pepper. Serve with a good loaf of bread - we got a baguette from the Asian grocery store down the street (Vietnamese cuisine has a lot of French influence, remember).

dorks, not nerds: Spring!
http://hwong14.blogspot.com/2010/03/spring.html
Tuesday, March 23, 2010. January and February, as they always do, had me in a funk this year. The only good thing about it was the snow, and even that wasn't all happy, because once I had the taste of a real, honest-to-goodness snow day (last one ever, I'm sure! I just became more and more bitter at ever having to go to work at all, snow or not. Give me an inch, I'll demand a mile, and all that. And what an end it's going to be. After this crazy stretch, I get one. entire. week. off! To do nothing with!

Mountain Mama: April 2010
http://pcj.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 11, 2010. Even though Lea's speech has progressed to the point where almost anybody, I think, should be able to have a pretty normal conversation with her, there are still a few quirks that remind me what a fascinating process language development really is. She's also really actively working on her vocabulary. Just today she asked us what "politics" and "stability" mean, and at one point she gestured out her car window, gasping "I just saw a skyscraper! Is a frequent lamentation. She let m...

Veins of Ink, Calves of Steel. The fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs. -Homer Simpson. Tuesday, May 27, 2008. After a third of the season, the Phillies are 30-24, on pace for 90 wins, one more than they got last year when they won the division. However, they're 1.5 games behind Florida at the moment. Holly got that nonsense with Super 8 straightened out. Night clerk didn't know from whence she spoke, but day clerk did. Whew. Posted by E.S.C. Links to this post. Super ...
