Mystical Excursions

Friday, December 26, 2008. A painting by Simone Martini. If my tongue cannot tell You at every moment that I love You,. At least may my heart repeat it with every breath I take. Friday, August 15, 2008. Stigmata: i pray, ergo sum. So, to this place, I first come unwillingly. Slipping, imperceptibly but surely; skidding, reluctantly; landing - painfully. Efforts to dig out might be compared to ineffectual scraping rock with bare and, thus, bleeding hands. Why shouldn't the dark night of the soul rupture?

Mystical Excursions: hedged in by a wall of cecil bruner roses: a post from 'the other side'

http://www.excessiveexcursions.blogspot.com/2007/04/hedged-in-by-wall-of-cecil-bruner-roses.html

Saturday, April 28, 2007. Hedged in by a wall of cecil bruner roses: a post from 'the other side'. It would be a giant understatement to say I process things differently from him. At the time of our General Convention last June, with some very weighty things going on there (and Fr. C right in the middle of it, being one facet of a cross-section on an important committee), I wrote a spontaneous (note: don't try this at home when you've had a bit too much sake) e-letter to him. My heart leaped: 50 years ag...

Mystical Excursions: Fr. John-Julian on The Mystical Christ

http://www.excessiveexcursions.blogspot.com/2007/04/fr-john-julian-on-mystical-christ.html

Tuesday, April 10, 2007. Fr John-Julian on The Mystical Christ. Why are young people these days talking about wanting “spirituality” without “religion”? Because religion has been shrunken and withered into law, measurement, emotion, and/or overt certainty about those things we cannot even vaguely comprehend. Why do people turn to New Age religion? Because it recognizes the mystical dimension, albeit in a sad, weak, and occult way. Do something about that horrendous wallpaper! Living outside of time and s...

Mystical Excursions: May 2007

http://www.excessiveexcursions.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 29, 2007. This past Lent, I spent time living into an image from the New Testament, taking the place of the woman who, in the press of the crowd, found her ultimate connection/relationship by merely touching the hem of Jesus' garment. As with other mystical and prayerful images for me, it found its inspiration in - and emanated from - walking the Stations of the Cross. All the way to the spot where a holy but dusty garment brushed the blood red carpet. As it passes between us.

This Life's Tenor: April 2009

http://thislifestenor.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 7. The Most Absolutely Amazing Musical Instrument. Is the human voice! Monday, April 6. Reaching for the Light. Tiny and dying but still-powerful stars called pulsars spin like crazy and light up their surroundings, often with ghostly glows. So it is with PSR B1509-58, which long ago collapsed into a sphere just 12 miles in diameter after running out of fuel. And what a strange scene this one has created. The scene, which spans 150 light-years, is about 17,000 light years away, so what we ...

This Life's Tenor: November 2007

http://thislifestenor.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 22. The Cat-astrophe of the Infamous One-legged Turkey. It was just another routine Thanksgiving Day. We had planned to sleep in (only a little), have breakfast, roast a wonderous 25 pound bird, and take said gobbler to the home of DL’s (my wife at that time) parents for a grand feast later that afternoon. Everything was going exactly as planned – until, that is, we awakened. Leak, but water; coming from…where? Checking the turkey the previous evening, we had deduced two things: (1) it...

Sunday, February 8. What a Wonderful World. For Catsinger and Miz Minka, who both seem to be having a tough time of it recently despite being exemplary cat people. Hope this lifts your collective spirits, if only a wee bit. Thanks UnklePhil.I probably wouldn't recognize the good places if there weren't any rough spots.:D. February 9, 2009 at 2:17 AM. Wednesday, December 24. Trumps hee hee hee. Monday, December 22. Friday, December 19. Tuesday, December 16. With a little bit of work, and a lot of luck in the lottery, I could drive Catsinger absolutely bonkers. Wish me luck. A tip of the hat to Stephanie, one of our spinal instrumentation reps, who has this mad genius as a neighbor. The homeowner works for Intel and not only shares the music via loudspeakers, but broadcasts the synchronized tunes so you can listen on your car radio as you drive by.

This Life's Tenor: John the Baptist

http://thislifestenor.blogspot.com/2009/01/john-baptist.html

Friday, January 9. Johnny's Mother looked out the window and noticed him 'playing church' with their cat. He had the cat sitting quietly and he was preaching to it. She smiled and went about her work. A while later she heard loud meowing and hissing and ran back to the open window to see Johnny baptizing the cat in a tub of water. She called out, 'Johnny, stop that! The cat is afraid of water! Johnny looked up at her and said, 'He should have thought about that before he joined my church.'.

This Life's Tenor: March 2008

http://thislifestenor.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 13. Dragonbug recently dared me to post my "brainscan" from brainscannr.com; could I possibly refuse this humble request? I tried quite a few and have herein posted two - very different indeed - scans. I have chosen to ignore the dreamingly content/shit-for-brains scan that I have a hunch was the one to which my "friend" alluded. Oh, and call me "Felipe", please. I'm not sure "Unkle Phil" fits. Wednesday, March 25. Draw Me a Picture; I Don't Understand! This is now the third "Brain Scan" I've completed (although I must admit, the ever-harder-to-spot draggingfly dragged me into the other two). I must admit, these things offer a wonderful, though temporary, refuge from the serious stuff of everyday life. Thanks for the break, ladies! Your Brain Usage Profile:.
