Keepers of Stuff: Representing culture
http://keepersofstuff.blogspot.com/2010/04/representing-culture.html
Blogging on museums, experience, education, and general thoughts on life. Basically rambling to myself. Wednesday, April 28, 2010. I'm currently at a museum with no collection. We don't have artifacts, we don't have objects. But, I'm running into major issues with cultural representation. How do you represent a culture honestly, without inadvertently reinforcing stereotypes? But back to Africa. What do you all think? Does a thatched roof drive the choice toward a rural/tribal home? That helps SO MUCH!

Keepers of Stuff: February 2009
http://keepersofstuff.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Blogging on museums, experience, education, and general thoughts on life. Basically rambling to myself. Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Can museums survive the economy? And other arts and library programs employ even more? Or do museum jobs seem less important than other jobs? Why is it that museums continue to be seen as an "extra" for society, rather than a necessity? AAM has created a forum to help museums navigate this scary time. http:/ www.aam-us.org/survivalguide.cfm. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

In one museum you are called Manager - but in another, the same job and pay is a coordinator. Do titles matter? Its very easy to say "No, my job is my job, regardless of title." And to a certain point, that is true. But titles do matter to us. From the Oxford Dictionary (online) -. Definition of 'Chief Executive Officer - CEO'.
