Just another WordPress.com site. Saturday morning, back in Adelaide and it’s cold and wet with a fine persistent drizzle that’s forecast to go for the next few days, and possibly all of next week too hooray, I can’t wait! 2) Is 10lb just too light? 3) Shaky confidence in the modified Albright! I recently saw a Youtube clip where Glanville from Nomad shows a quick method for tying an FG knot so I’m going to look into that (again! 4) Springs tides or Neaps? There’s an argument to be made for either option&...

Just another WordPress.com site. Sunday – Embley / Hey rivers. Mike and Ronnie in the other boat had three Barra hook-ups, one of which was promptly eaten by a 5ft Blacktip shark at the back of the boat. Dave and I working a drain. One of three small Barra Ronnie took. Dave with a good Threadfin Salmon. Have you ever eaten Thready? Asked Dave. No , I replied. Ok, we’ll keep this one then. Jelly prawn – this is what a lot of fish eat in the estuaries. Dave came over for a dinner of Long Tail sashimi, hot ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Date night….and day. So a rare and infrequent gap comes along and the missus and I are free agents for a night and a day. I just want to go clothes shopping and have lunch at a nice café, but she insists we go fishing.oh, well.ok. Water wasn’t too cold either and it’s clear Summer is coming. What amazing creatures. Those chromatophores in the skin are still going off 3hrs later. Chilli, garlic, chopped parsely and some chips – sensational! Blog archives for October, 2014.

Just another WordPress.com site. Weipa 2015 – it’s on! So it’s been a while since I posted – busy life and umpteen other commitments to attend to. Regrettably this affects fishing time but what can you do. My return from Exmouth had me thinking about 2015 not too long after, and how the months ahead could be spent with a plan in mind. We all need something to look forward to, and if you’re an angler then the prospect of a trip to an exotic destination takes some beating. Mike and Stephen, two flyfisherme...

Monday – another flats session down South | travelling angler

Just another WordPress.com site. Monday – another flats session down South. I replayed all those things in my head you read about, knowing one mistake would send the fish on its way with little prospect of seeing it again. You only get one shot. I saw only one more BB that morning, but I suspect Mike had bothered it earlier in the day and I made one cast which it simply ignored. We always stop for Tuna 🙂. Ronnie with a nice Queenie. Young Grey Mackerel hooked in the scissors! You can follow any response...

Just another WordPress.com site. Tuesday – Janie Creek. Dave Donald had invited us to join him for a trip up to Janie creek on Tuesday the week prior. We simply accepted, but as the time drew nearer we began to discuss this increasingly. Tuesday was our last fishing day, do we go somewhere new and unknown, or do we go fish the flats down South again which were on great tideshmmm, decisions decisions. Janie creek mouth at dawn. Ronnie with a nice Giant Herring. Dave with a good Diamond Trevally. My castin...

Wednesday – boat problems and less fish | travelling angler
https://travellingangler.wordpress.com/2016/05/13/wednesday-boat-problems-and-less-fish
Just another WordPress.com site. Wednesday – boat problems and less fish. First stop in the morning to see Pugwash and he installed a new sounder and transducer; in 30mins we were on our way again and on the water by 8:30am. With windy conditions we ran inshore down the coast, stopping to fish around some happy bait .bait with no predators in attendance. After a bit of effort I took a good Tuna on fly, Mike had a very brief encounter with a Mackerel but little else around and we kept heading South. We wo...

Just another WordPress.com site. 12 days to departure…. Things being what they are, the final few days prep is always rushed. Quite a bit of packing still to do and general organisation. Case in point, look at Monday 2. May, our first day on the water, where Weipa has a 2.1m high tide at 02:06 whereas Boyd has a 1.85m tide at 03:10. Then check out Sunday 8. Where Weipa has a 2.58m tide at 05:09 and Boyd a 2.28m tide at 04:25, confusing……! 8230;wow, makes life easy! Have you ever been on a boat or any oth...
