An American in England: August 2014

http://expat-american-in-england.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Tuesday, 19 August 2014. A nice greeting on my return. After spending some quality time back in the US with Suzanne, I got back to the cottage and found the following waiting for me:. This is the blue Hydrangea. And this one is the purpley-red one. Definitely my favorite and I need to get some of these planted at home! Posted by Tim Holland. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A nice greeting on my return.

An American in England: August 2013

An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Tuesday, 27 August 2013. This is my apple tree. No idea what kind but they are just starting to ripen. I pick one each day and cut it up as a dessert. A close up of the apples, tart like a Macintosh. And crisp. Next are a couple of hydrangeas. Big bushes but you are seeing the only flowers! I have no idea what this one is, but the flower is pretty. It grows wild near the hedgerows. Posted by Tim Holland. It started rain...

An American in England: Levens Hall

http://expat-american-in-england.blogspot.com/2014/07/levens-hall.html

An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Tuesday, 8 July 2014. Is another one of those British aristocracy homes that are open to the public. Well, parts are anyway. Suzanne and I decided we wanted to see the gardens; they are supposed to be the oldest continuous topiary gardens in the UK. Lots of strange shapes to all the bushes and trees. This little flower garden is lined with tiny little English boxwoods. That's an idea I may have try at home.

An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Sunday, 5 January 2014. Home for the Holidays. I had a great visit home for the holidays. It's always grounding to spend quality time with Suzanne and Tucker. I needed the break and really enjoyed visiting with Mom and Dad, hosting our annual Christmas Party and visiting with Glynis, Justin, Karen and Austin. Plus seeing all our friends while there. Here's a few pictures of the Sandhill Crane's that Dad is feeding.

An American in England: St Pancras Station

http://expat-american-in-england.blogspot.com/2014/10/st-pancras-station.html

An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Sunday, 26 October 2014. While waiting for Suzanne to join me at St Pancras International - the train station in London where you embark for trips to Europe - I walked about a bit and snapped some pictures. I'm not sure what church that is. A mixture of the old and new. St Pancras has been around a while and sometimes the architecture just shows through. That does have a nice ring to it. The story of my aircraft and ship modeling: June 2014

http://greenshirt-modeler.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

The story of my aircraft and ship modeling. A place to document my model building. Sunday, June 29, 2014. Airfix Spitfire Mk IXc, WD-QQ, 4th FS, 52nd FG, Corsica, Italy, 1944. Flown by Bob Hoover. Another build from the past. This is from Winter 2011, shortly after Airfix released their (then) new Mk IXc. I wanted to build it quickly simply because it was, at the time, the best and only Mk IX available. The Hasegawa kit has it's flaws and is typically quite expensive. Posted by Tim Holland. This is part of a "friend versus foe" theme build at our local club. Construction was very straight forward and relatively easy. What little detail was lost in construction I easily rescribed. For the cannons I decided to use the Master Spitfire 'e' wing brass cannon and .50 gun barrels. I'm conv...I used Peewit...

I built this kit back in 2010 and posted the build on the 72nd Aircraft. Website. For completeness I decided to post it here as well. The story of my aircraft and ship modeling. A place to document my model building. Thursday, November 6, 2014. Comparing the Airfix and AZModel Spitfire Mk IX. These are the two most recent Mk IX kits on the market. The Airfix Mk IX. Is older, having been released in 2009 and re-released in 2014 with new decals. The AZModel Mk IX. Was released in 2012. While both are nearly the same in terms of timing, and are generally accurate in shape, the difference in quality is quite marked. Airfix Mk IXc, kit A2065.

The story of my aircraft and ship modeling. A place to document my model building. Friday, November 29, 2013. I finally get my work bench back. Im probably not different than most modelers, my desk usually looks like this:. While at Telford I checked out Sphere Productions. Which is part of Progressive Engineering Solutions. Sphere sells a number of laser cut storage racks designed for modelers and gamers. One item I was particularly interested in was a paint rack for organizing my paints. So one of the ...

Until my tools, paints and references get across the Atlantic, I'll have to satisfy myself with writing about modeling related topics, instead of actual modeling. The story of my aircraft and ship modeling. A place to document my model building. Thursday, December 26, 2013. A very good Christmas. I hope everyone was able to have as nice a holiday as I did. Besides being home for the holidays, my wife gave me quite a surprise! As a bit of backstory, last year when Dragon announced their 1/72 scale Saturn V I mentioned that I'd made the Monogram (or was it Revell? She called the two area hobby stores, neither of which are very close and neither had one. Tom at t...

The story of my aircraft and ship modeling. A place to document my model building. Monday, January 5, 2015. RAF Ocean Grey: a good hobby paint match? One thing I've noticed is that my two most popular posts are about paint color. I've recently been asked about Ocean Grey, so I've decided to provide my assessment of those paints as well. I switched to acrylics a few years back and this analysis was done to find the right matches to the chips in British Aviation Colours of World War Two. Later the same two...

Jul 8th, 2013 at 12:29 PM. An American in England. Just writing about my experiences here in the United Kingdom! Friday, 30 January 2015. My assignment is over, I'm headed home. I haven't posted anything for a few weeks because, well frankly I didn't have anything new to post.
