Karen's Travels: January 2010

http://expatkaren.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 2, 2010. Despite the age, we found the Metro to be convenient and cheap. Train rides in the Netherlands are 3-5 euros at the minimum and can be quite pricey for long rides. The Metro was a little more than one euro per ride – probably more comparable to the trams in Amsterdam. With little energy to explore further, we found a restaurant close to the hotel and enjoyed a lovely dinner. After Dutch food, all the food in Paris is lovely! Day 2 was the Orangerie museum. Since the Oranger...

Saturday, February 13, 2010. The Host by Stephanie Meyer (of Twilight fame) – If you liked the Twilight series, you will like this one too. It’s pretty much the same story with the same themes but with a different setting. This time instead of vampires, its aliens that take over the human bodies. Shanghai Girls by Lisa See – Lisa See has written some really good books over the years. This was not one of my favorites. This one was about two wealthy girls growing up in Shanghai. Karen's Travels: 42 things that remind me I’m getting older

http://expatkaren.blogspot.com/2011/02/42-things-that-remind-me-im-getting.html

Tuesday, February 1, 2011. 42 things that remind me I’m getting older. I can’t see as well as I used to. I call the blemishes on my face rosacea instead of acne. Are those freckles or age-spots? I really want one of those handy chains for my reading glasses. 8220;Fun” restaurants to are too loud. 8220;Romantic” restaurants are too dark. The music in most places is just too loud. Movies are too loud. I still have a check book. Have the newspapers made the print smaller? I actually try to eat more fiber.

Karen's Travels: Weekend FLight to Singapore

http://expatkaren.blogspot.com/2011/02/weekend-flight-to-singapore.html

Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Weekend FLight to Singapore. The glamour of business travel never ends. My boss decided for 2011 that all of us will fly economy class regardless of the company policy that should allow us to fly business class for flights loner than 5 hours. His reasoning is sound – he wants more of us to be able to travel and participate in conferences and trainings around the world. On the other hand, 12 hours in economy class to Singapore is really not fun. Word cut out, I was fed up.

Karen's Travels: March 2010

http://expatkaren.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 1, 2010. Sometime later, we were sitting downstairs watching TV when we heard a ruckus upstairs. We thought it was Nova rushing down the stairs after leaving a deposit in the litter box. Sometimes in his haste to escape the poopy-smell he races down the stairs and hits the bottom with quite a thump. Sometimes there is meowing involved (Nova IS a boy after all). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm a food scientist from the Chicago area who is moving to the Netherlands on an ex-pat assignment&#46...

Expat Life on Palm Street. 8230;thoughts and musings from another pond…. Swearing and the B-word. A couple nights ago on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon they featured a band with a super catchy song called “S.O.B.” It was the band’s nighttime TV debut. A pretty big deal. And they were. But in all seriousness, I think my b-word,. Going to be me! I swore that the B-word wouldn’t be a part of my story, my narrative. I was not going to be one of. People who burned out. Burnout. The world is waiting. Sunday, March 20, 2016. Chilling on a Boat in the Backwaters of India. The boat churns to a slow start on as I drop my bag in the bedroom. It has two double beds, and I'm not sure how all 9 of us will sleep here. This is our first glimpse at what will be our home for the next three days. Follow my travels @expatkerri. I don't know exactly why, but part of me was scared to visit India before this trip. (Okay, maybe I partly know why - thanks Chuck Thompson. Why did I wait so long?
