And then you went ahead and took your first real solid steps and sealed the deal. At your own party. Well played! You got a cape with the first letter of your name on it, which you should never take off. You got a ukulele. And Jenny helped tune it and play you the first dozen or so lovely songs on it. I have some uke practice cut out for me. And on...

The Hands On Dad. Straight forward talk about fatherhood. Welcome to the Hands On Dad. September 25, 2014 Fatherhood. Parents tell your children the truth. That you love them, of course. And think they are beautiful, yes. And that they smell unique and delicious and entirely yours. But also that they just need to shut up for a minute. So you can get this email sent. This other critical, forgettable, urgency off your plate. Tell them you just need them to stop talking to you for a moment. All of that a gi...

But there was something definitively different about that travel conversation. Maybe we didn’t even realize it at the time but we were, somehow, making a pact. A promise to say ‘yes’ when the other person had a whim or wild hair about doing something exotic and ambitious. And so we are. That’s what we told ourselves. Gotta do Paris.).

Daddy, do you like my picture I made for you? 8220;Oh yes, Pebbles, I do. It’s beautiful”. Now, I’m not saying this isn’t a perfectly acceptable level of artistic skill for a 4-year-old (though, my head is slightly smaller than that and my arms a little better developed). Charming? It’s precisely the possibility of abject failure and the sting of emotions tha...

The Hands On Dad. Straight forward talk about fatherhood. Welcome to the Hands On Dad. After the Boston Bombings, Should We Blame the Parents? April 21, 2013 Uncategorized. To be the bad guy. Was this a sign of something sinister brewing in my 6 year old? Did I need to worry that, despite all my admonitions about kindness and love, Z was attracted to the dark side? But surely Susan and Tom Klebold loved their son as fiercely as I love mine. Susan was, by most accounts, an engaged and involved mother&...

Dear Lucky Crane — Zero to baby
http://zerotobaby.com/2010/07/dear-lucky-crane
Wed, Jul 21st, 2010. Had someone told me during all of those years that I spent being my own selfish self that I would love a baby as much as I love you, I probably would have laughed them off. If I could have felt even a tenth of that love, like watching a preview for a fantastic movie, I might have called all my own selfishness off and gone ahead with The Parent Agenda a bit too soon. I spent a lot of time getting to know myself, but it wasn’t until I started getting to know you that I felt all o...

Why, Hello Baby Neal Michael! A glimpse into the journey of a first born child! Monday, February 28, 2011. Ahhhh, I can breathe now…. OMG… THIS is what I’ve. For the last month, I’ve been wearing my normal pants and leaving them unbuttoned at the top, and in the last week they’ve been very uncomfortable around my midsection. Today I slipped those glorious pants on and all felt right with the world. Or with my belly at least. I’ve been sucking out. Friday, February 25, 2011. And then, the baby news broke.

From the category archives:. 45 Month Old Days…. Wed, Oct 6th, 2010. Oh internet, where does the time go? I know where it went…. I lost it to the so called 4 month sleep regression. This, of course, came in tandem with my triumphant return. To the VAIN beauty world and our baby’s first cold. Seriously, the world of baby parenting decided to throw me three difficult things at once and see if we would sink or swim. We swam. We swam our hearts out! Of course, it helps that our child looks like this:. When I...
