Explored Thoughts

That Smelly Ol' Factory. Wednesday, September 06, 2006. Smell is an interesting sense to have. It is often subtle and unnoticed, like blinking, until we experience an extreme, like having sand in our eye or apple pie. Smell enhances it's sister sense, taste, by adding richness to the mere 7-8 flavors our tongues can perceive. Wikipedia even claims that without smell, a sliced apple and a sliced potato are indistinguishable. The pleasant smell molecules are perfectly acceptable. I've yet to frown or g...

Explored Thoughts: Source Comment-o'-the-Day

http://www.exploredthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/01/source-comment-o-day.html

Tuesday, January 31, 2006. Non-coders can safely ignore this one. I just needed to document it. Pun not intended, but enjoyed and allowed to remain. I'm plowing through a client's large PHP script to convert the output from HTML to PDF. The formatting is generally awful, with indentation all over the place and unneccessary code tossed about like an excited Shriner firing candy at a parade crowd. Sure, it's fun to watch, but you won't ever watch anything again if a piece hits you in the eye. My example is...

Explored Thoughts: Geocaching

http://www.exploredthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/08/geocaching_22.html

Tuesday, August 22, 2006. I've recently acquired a new game/sport/hobby called "geocaching". Geocaching.com defines it thusly:. Geocaching is similar to a very large (world-wide, even) easter egg hunt. The family no longer hides the eggs - they have been replaced by complete strangers. The eggs are now less colorful and range widely in appearance and size. So far I've seen matchstick containers, ammo boxes, tupperware, plastic jugs, and 35mm film canisters. And the sweet dollar-store toys, too.

Explored Thoughts: An Excerpt

http://www.exploredthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/04/excerpt.html

Thursday, April 06, 2006. INT ED'S HOUSE, LIVING ROOM - EVENING. ED paces nervously, having an inaudible conversation with himself. REGGIE watches him amusedly. Are you ready for this? I don't know - I think. Reggie frowns paternally and grabs Ed firmly by the shoulders. You'll be fine. You're meeting a beautiful woman tonight. Ed visibly blanches and closes his eyes for a few seconds. What was that face for? Wait You are a "girls" kinda. I just threw up in my mouth a little. Posted by Clint at 11:04 PM.

Explored Thoughts: Fashionless in Seattle

http://www.exploredthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/08/fashionless-in-seattle.html

Monday, August 07, 2006. I recently discovered a fashion blog titled, " The Sartorialist. Viewing it, I can't help but wish that I had well-worn suits and stylish jackets. Money is often an obstacle in this endeavor, as is my lack of good taste. My wife was once commanded by a salesman: "Do not let him wear tubesocks with this suit." I shook my head, but silently made a mental note. Posted by Clint at 1:06 PM. I get to run around in nothin but a diaper. woooo! Aw, shoot - i'll go ask my wife. My wife tel...

Explored Thoughts: That Useless Internet

http://www.exploredthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/08/that-useless-internet.html

Friday, August 11, 2006. Anyone that knows me personally knows that I love the internet. It's unfathomable how much information I have absorbed online that would not be easily obtained in a strictly offline world. Sometimes I even print off random web pages, pile them up on the floor, and roll around in them Scrooge McDuck style. Therein lies one of the things I cannot easily find: sound. I'm stuck if I like the sound of a song but don't have any. Posted by Clint at 9:42 AM. There's actually a site that ...

Spiritually Lonely: Ya'll Come

http://spirituallylonely.blogspot.com/2005/10/yall-come.html

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Friday, October 21, 2005. If it isn’t plain to you that the church today isn’t the Church that the Bible talks about, let me give you a telling example. What’s wrong with the invitational church model? He came to save, to rescue, and to reclaim humanity. He sought to alleviate suffering wherever it was found. He went about doing good, no strings attached. Jesus spent his time outside the confines of the ...

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Wednesday, November 16, 2005. I like the word incipient. It means something that is just beginning to exist or appear. When something is incipient, in its very earliest stages of development, does it exist? Doesn’t it exist whether it is fully grown or barely embryonic? God’s choice to “reward” the sincere seeker is not based on the degree to which one searches but on his graciousness based on what...When does the u...

Spiritually Lonely: Moral Schizophrenics

http://spirituallylonely.blogspot.com/2005/11/moral-schizophrenics.html

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Wednesday, November 02, 2005. I think Coldplay is an awesome group. Their new album X and Y is terrific. I was telling a “church” person about my musical tastes and they said, “I don’t listen to. Music … (supply your own self-righteous tone here) … I only listen to. So … U2’s off limits … but what about some Christmas music, like Jingle Bells, is that okay? And CSI is good television; can’t we include that? Since ev...

Spiritually Lonely: I Like Life

http://spirituallylonely.blogspot.com/2005/10/i-like-life.html

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Friday, October 28, 2005. I’m a life-aholic. I’m hooked on it! Of course, this is an oversimplification. Many in church will immediately protest that they are allowed to enjoy their lives. However, whether they realize it or not, they are only speaking of “sanctioned” enjoyment. Anything outside of the “approved” list of “allowable” enjoyment is suspect at best and a p...The church has taken everything and asked thi...

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Monday, January 16, 2006. Hebrews 11:6 has become my. Of Bible passages. It says. So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. Spiritually Lonely: To Be or Not To Be

http://spirituallylonely.blogspot.com/2005/10/to-be-or-not-to-be.html

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Tuesday, October 25, 2005. To Be or Not To Be. At least these people have found some relief. Thousands have remained within the confines of organized religion resigned to the notion that this is the way it is supposed to be, a lifeless, numbing existence as a living martyr in sacrificial service to God. They are convinced that although it isn’t the way it is supposed to be, it is the only way. Going to church teache...

Coming from a conservative Christian background and traveling to a new world of thoughts. Monday, March 27, 2006. The Road I Take ©. I went through all the motions. My goal to not be ignored. I faked the heart and emotions. Inside I was lonely and bored. Talk about high expectations,. I tried to live up to them all. It led me to total exhaustion. Each time I’d inevitably fall. What difference does it make which road I take. I’ve tried narrow and wide,. Gone along for the ride. Wound up empty inside.
