Saturday, May 10, 2008. Iranian Culture in Translation. When asked by people why exactly I am taking this course, I generally respond with, “Because I do not know anything about Iran, or its people.”. Thank you to all of my fellow classmates for taking the time to learn along with me. Iran is a little less mysterious to me now. It is far more interesting, but most of all it is accessible. I want to thank Nima for allowing me to take this class. Thursday, May 8, 2008. As a male, if you have ever wondered ...

Explore Iran: The Wind Carpet

http://www.exploreiran.blogspot.com/2008/04/wind-carpet.html

Tuesday, April 8, 2008. The Wind Carpet is an interesting film demonstrating the cross cultural appreciation and interpretation of Persian carpets, their design and the work and dedication that goes into their creation. The ending is somewhat awkward. You are left without some resolution of side storylines, but the main conflict of the film does receive conclusion. In the end I would recommend this film. It is light, sweet and examines a part of Persian culture not often explored. View my complete profile.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Niyaz is a younger music group out of California. Their self titled CD NIYAZ is an interesting mix of traditional music done with the group’s contemporary sound. The Farsi language, traditional instruments mixed with the more upbeat, contemporary rhythms makes for a fun sound. Tuesday, April 22, 2008. Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Explore Iran: The Lizard

http://www.exploreiran.blogspot.com/2008/04/lizard.html

Tuesday, April 1, 2008. Marmoulak, The Lizard is a surprising film, at least it was for me. Initially banned for its controversial view of religion and portrayal of Muslim clerics, this film eventually won the hearts of audiences all over the world. It is honest, heartfelt and ultimately very funny. April 17, 2008 at 10:28 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

My lids so smooth and my nails so pale. Did you know then that we would come this far. Wander these many years and more. That we would rehearse this long day's journey. Picture Persia: Iranian Democracy Today, As The Media Reports It

http://picturepersia.blogspot.com/2008/03/iranian-democracy.html

An enlightening voyage through studies of "Iranian Culture in Translation.". Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Iranian Democracy Today, As The Media Reports It. While I understand an election of some sort is better than none at all, and I applaud the efforts and passion of those who clearly want a fair ballot, articles streaming in from the media have me easily skeptical of Iran’s democratic (or lack thereof) procedures. Why do only approximately 50% of U.S. voters going to the polls? Do they feel disenfranchised?

Monday, March 10, 2008. All Adam’s race are members of one frame;. Since all, at first, from the same essence came. When by hard fortune one limb is oppressed,. The other members lose their wonted rest,. If thou feel’st not for others’ misery,. A son of Adam is no name for thee. Another translation of this same poem goes:. All human beings are in truth akin,. All in creation share one origin;. When fate allots a member pangs and pain,. No ease for other members then remains;. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
