Just some thoughts…. I may never read another book again! Or, Television, drug of a nation). October 7, 2015. October 7, 2015. It’s a Wednesday evening and you know what that means, right? OK, maybe you don’t. Or, you do but that is not what I was getting at. I was telling my teacher-librarian colleague that a new series starts tonight on SBS,. Which has had good reviews and certainly looks great from all of the trailers that I have seen. And then, I proceeded to tell him, that tonight was also. Are the ...

Just some thoughts…. Discovering popular culture #1. September 2, 2015. September 3, 2015. I had one of my IT classes this afternoon and gave them their next design project to start work on. So what? They have to design a site about an aspect of popular culture. It is very open and can be about any aspect – video games, music, TV shows, technology, sport… The choice is theirs. What is the hot watercooler topic these days? Is there a single thing that appeals to all of this age group? The few girls who ar...

Just some thoughts…. You spin me right round, baby…. September 19, 2015. I almost felt like a hipster. I won’t bore you with the details but I got it into my head that it would be cool to once again listen to some of my records. You might recall these things… Black, plastic discs that contained sounds. You then placed them on a turntable. And you could hold the album sleeve in your hands and actually read the liner notes without squinting. Oh, the memories…. He won’t be able to help me. How cool is that?

Just some thoughts…. Countdown – Do yourself a favour! September 1, 2015. September 3, 2015. SBS recently broadcast a documentary which was a retrospective on Countdown ( Do yourself a favour ) and I got stuck watching it on Sunday night, even though it was a repeat. In more ways than one! Either way, the documentary was a trip down memory lane and very enjoyable. The point of this? Http:/ www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/countdown-do-yourself-a-favour/. August 22, 2015. Here I am, writing a post, listening to an album and rating the songs and adding them to playlists, checking my mail on a couple of accounts and thinking about my uni assignment and cooking tea and the sound of the waves…. The point being, is multitasking just for the young? Thoughts from the Library.

Just some thoughts…. Do I have to change the Library again? Or, just make it stop! October 18, 2015. October 18, 2015. Our school library is a busy place. It never used to be, going back a few years. Maybe ten. Not once. And if I did, it has vanished from my memory. It was not memorable nor expected that I would take the students there. I mean, why would you? I don’t think I even visited it, as a teacher. It seemed dark and oppressive with old furniture and even older books, it appeared. A learning commo...

Just some thoughts…. There’s dystopia and then there’s dystopia…. September 13, 2015. September 13, 2015. Do we know how the world will end? Of course not. But many writers have spent countless pages telling us their theories, haven’t they? And it’s not just the end of the world that we worry about, but the shape of the future world. Both of these fall under that broad heading of “dystopia” where the future is generally thought to be a bleak and hopeless place. It does sound more than a little like.

Just some thoughts…. October 5, 2015. It might seem perfectly natural that Minecraft. And Lego would go hand in hand but the irony nearly floored me recently when I was in Kmart and saw that Lego has now brought out a Minecraft range. From one block to another! Doesn’t that strike anyone else as being a little crazy? How much design work would need to be done to Minecraft objects to make them Lego creations? I am going out on a limb here and saying, Not much at all! It just doesn’t seem right! This compa...

Cover me… – just some thoughts…
https://shanesymonds.wordpress.com/2015/10/06/cover-me
Just some thoughts…. October 6, 2015. My teacher-librarian colleague and I were discussing newly-purchased books, as we do, which to us sounds perfectly normal but to others could be easily construed as a nerdfest Anyway, we remarked on the cover seen below. Haven’t we seen you somewhere before? It has become a bit of a thing, lately. I like to call it. Backlit Portrait of Assassin with Two Blades. And all that but why else would publishers spend a fortune on having cover designed? The moral of the story?
