Exporting Optimism

Thursday, March 25, 2010. I am closing in on the end of my college career. I really have no regrets here. I have taken advantage of a lot of the opportunities that BYU offers. If there was more time- I definitely would have done even more. One thing on my list was to learn how to speed read, to speak Spanish, and to do a study abroad. But you know what? I've got the rest of my life to do those things. I could technically stay in college forever I suppose, but it's time to move on. I had the car towed to ...

Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Pit's been awhile. School never seems to slow down but it is so good to have job security as a student (am I right or am I right? Think I'm crazy, but I've done HR for some time now and I really enjoy it. Once you find something you like- I think you have to go with it- especially when you can make darn good money. Exporting Optimism: Aptphobia Part II

http://exportingoptimism.blogspot.com/2010/01/aptphobia-part-ii.html

Tuesday, January 26, 2010. My wife recommended that I begin to include a picture with all of my posts. She let me know that my blog is extremely boring with pictures. She's the realist that keeps my feet on the ground. So, this is Eleanor. She was born December 17, 2009 and is the cutest thing on Earth. I woke up and saw that it was 3 minutes before my plane was scheduled to leave. I shook off some sleep and sat up and waited for boarding call. I waited some more. I got antcy about 30 minutes...They did&...

Exporting Optimism: November 2008

http://exportingoptimism.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 7, 2008. What a country and what a life! I am Joe Hardie and I have created this blog to bring a few smiles to my family and put some of my thoughts out there for the world to read. My site's title could someday be the title of an economic book I'd like to write. I've got the optimism down- now I'm just some economic training away from a best seller! I decided that it was it was a good investment to get a new phone. Plus maybe I'll make some friends now that my phone is hott hott!

Thursday, January 14, 2010. Aptphobia (a fear of airports) Part I. I'm back and it feels darn good. My good friend Nate Black started his doctoral degree in nutrition this past fall at the University of Hawaii. Before he left, he said, "Joe I need you to to keep exporting optimism. I depend on it! So thanks Nate for inspiring me to continue blogging. Despite taking a heavy class load, working part time, and having a new baby girl, I think that this blog is important to my sanity. This knife when unfolded...

The Greatest Adventure: Easter

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2013/04/easter.html

Saturday, April 13, 2013. Better late than never - at least it's still springtime! This is the first Easter that Manu's been old enough to be interested in things like candy. We went with some friends to a community egg hunt at Makiki park. It was pretty crazy and all over in about 30 seconds. Manu wasn't sure to make of it all until he realized that there was candy in the eggs. This made me smile and laugh. What fun! And what a cute little Manu! April 15, 2013 at 10:16 AM. The Greatest Adventure: Kuli'ou'ou Ridge Hike

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2009/12/kuliouou-ridge-hike.html

Tuesday, December 29, 2009. And others. The sights and sounds of the forest were so soothing. It was wonderful to be away from the noise, hustle, and stink of the city. (Yes, Hawaii is beautiful, but sometimes the city just plain stinks). About halfway up the trail we met another couple who were on their way down, looking refreshed while we, sweaty-faced and panting, labored upward. We exchanged greetings and Nate asked, "There's a water-fountain at the top, right? Around past Koko Head. The view was inc...

The Greatest Adventure: November 2012

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Manu is picking up words right and left (or perhaps I should say "up" and "down" since that is his new favorite pairing). I love when he walks around saying "oh, my! Which is what I say to him when I come across him making a huge mess. Of course, I think everything he says is darling. Except "no." That's cute only very rarely. Nate has been working his tail off lately (Thanks! This must be how our Father in Heaven feels toward us. No other person knows Manu better than N...

Tuesday, June 22, 2010. More from our Staycation. I know, I promised to post more sweet staycation photos soon, and I made you wait two whole weeks. Sorry. But as they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. I just wanted to make you all more fond of me so that you'll want to come and visit me. If that doesn't get you here perhaps these will:. Joe and Nate at the Punchbowl lookout. Monday we found a new favorite beach. Hukilau. It's awesome. Cute baby. Hot mama. Joe checking out the big guns. BYU gradu...

The Greatest Adventure: September 2012

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 20, 2012. Sunday afternoon Manu helped me make brownies and boy did he have a blast! He watched everything I did very carefully. After I cracked an egg on the side of the bowl to add it to the batter, Manu grabbed one too and cracked it on the table. He also wanted to scoop, stir and put things in - including the lid to the cocoa box. After this it was straight into the tub for Manu. With all that chocolate, there was just no way around it. The Greatest Adventure: Manu's Birthday!

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2013/08/manus-2nd-birthday.html

Friday, August 2, 2013. Manu just had a birthday! He and I had just arrived back Thursday night from a blissful 3-week excursion to visit family in OK. We had to get back before Manu's birthday so we could celebrate with Nate! Nate had the whole day off and the three of us savored the day together. Then we had a great pizza dinner at the beach (pepperoni with extra sand anyone? A few fun facts about Manu for his birthday:. Takes a 2-3 hr nap every afternoon. Heaven. Happy Birthday, Manu! The Greatest Adventure: May 2013

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Friday, May 24, 2013. But Wednesday everything finally came together. The day was perfect - not much wind, clear skies, calm water. So we went sea kayaking! We started off at Kailua beach and paddled out to the Mokes. These two islands (Mokulua means "twin islands") are part of the Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary, but you can land on the beach of the left island (looking from shore) and look around. Here's some pics from the adventure:. On the beach at the Mokes (rhymes with smokes). A Day Like This One.

The Greatest Adventure: February 2013

http://the-greatestadventure.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 2, 2013. Okay, I admit it. I'm a closet sewer. Not a sewer, a sew-er. You know what I mean, right? Last year for Christmas, Nate bought me a sewing machine. I'd wanted one for quite awhile, but could never justify spending all that money on a gadget for myself. (Do sewing machines count as gadgets? Anyway, I love it. Here's what I've made in the last year (not counting really practical things like hems and scout patches):. Stuffed toy owls: 8 (these are my new favorite baby gift).
