Maths 911 has been broadcasting since July 2006. The premise is simple: broadcast the best teachers live across the country and give learners access to them. The learners call in with questions and the teachers work through the calls with them. In 2009 Maths911 began working through the new Maths911 workbook at the top of the show giving learners the opportunity to follow along at home with their own workbooks and have solid notes to revise from at exam time. In 2009 Bubblegum began managing the production of new content for Matric Matters. This new content is aligned to the NCS and focuses on Maths and Science for Grade 11 and Grade 12. The four main areas in Grade R are: Emergent Literacy, Emergent Numeracy and Life Skills and Exploring Science and Technology. The six learning outcomes for Emergent Literacy for Grade R are listening, speaking, reading/viewing, writing, thinking and reasoning, and language structure and use. In Grade R, we don't actually aim to teach the learner to read and write, that is only for Grade 1. The same strategy as literacy applies to numeracy. Working with Lead SA in 2010 and funded by banking group Absa , we launched the newspaper supplement Primary Matters into The Star and Pretoria News. This supplement (spread over 20 editions) deals with both core curriculum subjects Numeracy and Literacy, as well as broaching the Rights and Responsibilities of all South Africans that are enshrined in the constitution. Primary Matters will be extended into 35 editions in 2012 and will focus more tightly on Numeracy and Literacy for Grades 1-3. B EE / SED.
