June

http://www.extremadurabirding.net/en/birds/what-to-see-month-by-month/june.html

Driving along country tracks at night you see a good number of Red-necked Nightjar, though during daylight hours they hunker down out of sight amongst ground vegetation in shady areas. There are plenty of Quail around, but actually getting a half-decent view is no easy matter. Like Corncrakes, you can hear them but a sighting is a treat. A lovely spectacle is a hawking group of Collared Pratincole looking like huge hirundines.

When to visit

http://www.extremadurabirding.net/en/arranging-a-visit/when-to-visit.html

There is plenty to see throughout the year but it is important to take the birder's welfare into account. The summer heat can be fierce and it has become "standard" practice to consider Extremadura almost exclusively as a Spring venue. However, the birds present in winter - both resident and migrant - together with usually mild and sunny conditions can make this a good time to come too. Spring (March to May). Summer (June to mid-September). Autumn (Mid-September to November).

Habitats

http://www.extremadurabirding.net/en/birds/habitats.html

This is a very characteristic landscape throughout the region, with rolling pasture scattered with cork oaks (alcornoques) or holm oaks (encinas). The acorns provide food for the renowned black pigs of the region, producing Spain's most sought-after and expensive jamón serrano. Dehesa looks very much like parkland, and provides habitat for a wide range of birds from passerines to Black Kite and other raptors. Rolling grassland or steppe. There are high mountains in the north of the region, reaching over ...

May

http://www.extremadurabirding.net/en/birds/what-to-see-month-by-month/may.html

Many nestlings have now fledged, and the landscape is starting to look drier by the end of the month. Early morning and evening are now the most pleasant times to be out, with time for a mid-afternoon siesta. There is a colony of Gull-billed Tern on the Orellana reservoir, and Black and Little Tern are regular further to the north. Red-necked Nightjar make their strange hollow song after sunset and can be found sitting on dusty tracks. There is exuberant new life everywhere.

November

http://www.extremadurabirding.net/en/birds/what-to-see-month-by-month/november.html

This month you actually need a pullover on some days! There should be some rainfall to start to top up the aquifers. Depending on how cold the weather is getting up north, there may still be a fair number of birds on late passage.

ExtremaduraBirding

Jueves, 9 de abril de 2015. At a distance it is a fascinating spectacle. Seen from close up, it is quite amazing, and this is made possible through various hides across Extremadura. Recently we spent a morning in a hide and here are a few of the 2,000 photos we took! We are in the hide before sunrise, and the first birds to show are Kites - mainly Black with a few Red - and a few Raven. The next bird to show up is the Egyptian Vulture. And then the first Black Vulture. They haunch and posture a great deal.
