Saturday, July 27, 2013. West Coast, NZ: The Wangapeka. Think lush, green temperate rainforest. Add recent rain, a hungry-for-paddling team and (finally) some free time. And you have a deal. In March, amongst our busy stretch of teaching kayaking, we managed to escape to the Westport. In all honesty, there are possibly better places to escape, but on the back of some rain and rumours of some pretty fun paddling, we headed over for the day. All Photos/ Daan Jimmink. Friday, May 17, 2013. Two Days on the Upper Whitcombe, New Zealand. We had a great team with Ben White, Jess Matheson, Phil Palzer, Rata Lovell-Smith, Soph Steezy Mulder and myself. Thursday, January 26, 2012. First Descent of Toaroha Canyon. This misson started like most missions do when living in Murchison: through Skype. After a couple of chats to Jordy during the week, Jess and I decided to head down to the West Coast to paddle the two day Perth. We had completed most of our drive down to Hokitika when we got a text from Jordy saying "We are saving the two day Perth for another day and heading into the Toaroha Canyon". Saturday, July 30, 2011. Royally Thrashed on Royal Gorge. The big decision this week was where to go. Within a few days Royal Gorge, Dinkey Creek, the South Merced, Devil’s Canyon and Bald Rock Canyon had all come in. For our group of seven: Daan, Shannon, Matt, Lou, Tyler, Gordy and myself – Royal Gorge was on. We shanghai-ed a driver (Ryan), a wagon that could fit all (Mum) and we were off.
