Getting around in the 21st century. Friday, May 16, 2008. Betty Boop's got the right idea. Look how trim she is staying. Heralded by Scientific American as 'the most efficient transportation in the known universe", bikes pollute not; are quiet as a whisper; fun and relaxing to ride; instill a sense of independence and freedom; are cheap and easy to maintain. On flat ground, one pump of the pedal can take you 20 yards or more. Up-hill, its a healthy workout. Down-hill, gravity-drive kicks in.
