EYE ON DANCE creates an alluring entry point to dance for people of all ages. The inviting television format uses the artist's voice to personalize the creative process. Absorbing conversations punctuated with performance footage put people face to face with artists' ideas, accomplishments, and artistic approaches. Praised by The New York Times as "one of the liveliest and most intelligent programs on the arts," EYE ON DANCE was launched in 1981 by Celia Ipiotis and Jeff Bush to help propel dance literacy.

In the world of DANCE. EYE ON DANCE LEGACY ARCHIVE PROJECT CAMPAIGN. Many people recall the weekly television programs testifying to the innovation, determination and briliance of a contemporary dance scene that exploded in the 1980's and 1990's. Those video programs and all the raw footage is gathered in THE EYE ON DANCE LEGACY ARCHIVE CAMPAIGN which is preserving America's dance heritage. Many of the artists captured were artists with AIDS who are no longer living or documented elsewhere. Life long sup...

http://nycdancewriting.blogspot.com/2011/05/in-sight-dance-company-this-isnext-stop.html
A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Monday, May 2, 2011. In-Sight Dance Company: THIS IS.NEXT STOP. Picture ballet snatched from the proscenium stage and thrown into your lap. This is the sensation that In-Sight Dance Company’s performance of This Is…Next Stop…. First gives in the quaint space at the Secret Theatre. Coming full circle, the final dance, “Sympatheti...

Choreographing Words: I heart Puppets

A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. I thought so when I was five, when I was preparing my puppet dance theater for a midterm freshman year (ohhh yes) and I thought so this past weekend as I sat in the audience of Pants On Fire's. This whole idea came into play in a big way in the incredible. Please check out my review of "Metamorphoses".
Choreographing Words: Tricky Business

A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Saturday, July 2, 2011. How the heck can someone be expected to decide who to honor, "give a good review," or name as Excellent when it comes to dance? Random. But that's the best part! All may have been "good" in my eyes, or only some, or none at all, and OF COURSE my opinions on that would differ from yours. That's irrelevant. What'...
Choreographing Words: First Impressions
http://nycdancewriting.blogspot.com/2011/05/first-impressions.html
A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Often the first sentences of my dance reviews are descriptive of the first few moments of the performance - the moments right after the curtain rises and lights go up. Similar to a job interview or simply meeting someone for the first time, the beginning moments of a dance performance create an instant. To check ...

Choreographing Words: Imprecise But Effortless

A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Sunday, January 2, 2011. To quote the fabulously screwed-up movie, Black Swan, movement before turned into dance has this innocent quality - it is "imprecise but effortless.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Choreographing Words: Ankole Modern

A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Monday, May 23, 2011. Just recently, one of the many great friends I made in Kampala, Ssekate Ivanovich, shared some video footage of our performance at the Uganda National Theater of. A piece choreographed and taught by Deborah Damast, an NYU professor, that was inspired by the Ugandan Ankole cow's look and movement. Myself, along wi...
Choreographing Words: I Am a Different Audience Member

A choreographer takes movement and creates dance. I look at the dance choreographed and create words, sentences, images, perhaps only thoughts. Photo Credit: Eric Bandiero. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. I Am a Different Audience Member. Her smile shined the brightest amongst the dozen girls all with hair slicked back, red lipstick perfectly applied, rhinestones sparkling on their ears. Twelve mirror images of each other down to their flowing mauve short-skirts and pale pointe shoes. The one thing that keeps...
