Working with flux… with Steven Aimone – textilessudouest

https://textilessudouest.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/working-with-flux-with-steven-aimone

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. Working with flux… with Steven Aimone. A quick session using Aimone’s assert/obliterate method. This piece is entitled. Crap Internet Signal in Rural France. It is graphite stick/charcoal/white acrylic on paper. My husband thought a better title was. Truth be told, I can see a little bit of Robbie in there…. It was a surprisingly satisfying way to spend fifteen minutes;. I found myself making patterns despite not trying;. August 13, 2015. January 19, 2016.

Sketchbook work – textilessudouest

https://textilessudouest.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/510/comment-page-1

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. Project 2 - Recording and capturing. A few hours working on ‘recording and capturing’ my three items. I followed the brief at first, avoiding colour and trying to capture the essence of the textiles in pencil and ink. Shawl: using wet and dry ink to show folds and drape. Ink wash on tracing paper, scrap of crochet used to dab and print in the wet ink. Tracing paper again, trying to create the slubs in the silk with wc ink applied straight from the dropper.

July 2015 – textilessudouest

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. He wishes for the cloths of heaven…. Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths,. Enwrought with golden and silver light,. The blue and the dim and the dark cloths. Of night and light and the half-light,. I would spread the cloths under your feet:. But I , being poor, have only my dreams;. I have spread my dreams under your feet;. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. July 30, 2015. I find charcoal quite liberating. The sunflowers are deteriorating nicely.

Final submission – textilessudouest

https://textilessudouest.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/final-submission/comment-page-1

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. Although the dates on my work show that I spent around three weeks actually producing these drawings, the hours put in were substantial. I’m on the long summer holiday so I’ve been able to put in 6-8 hours most days and I tried to do something every day. I also spent a couple of weeks mind-mapping and thinking everything through. Road to Nowhere – textilessudouest

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. Project 2 - Recording and capturing. I interrogated my state of mind. I know I am endlessly frustrated by my drawing. I thought I’d got over it when I finished Assignment 1 but it just goes to show, we don’t always understand ourselves very well. I look at other people’s blogs and think, oh, hell, they can draw and I can’t. Which paralyses me. Charcoal rubbed and smudged on a huge sheet of cartridge paper for the little bodice which is getting a bit grubby,...

August 2015 – textilessudouest

https://textilessudouest.wordpress.com/2015/08

Colour, shape and texture in south-west France. Project 1 - Selecting and identifying. Exercise 1.2: Substance and Story Part 2. My second item comes from an external archive, the Musée des Jacobins in Auch. It is a nineteenth century ‘châle de cachemire’, probably worn by a bride from a well-to-do ‘peasant’ family. Although my drawings have been of one particular shawl, there are a few displayed in the museum and in the archives, so the photographs included here are of a number of them. Some William Mor...

Fabric and Threads

Stitch of the week:- FLAT STITCH. This is a great filler stitch being like satin stitch it is quite dense. It is slightly raised and because you overlap the stitches in the middle it give a vein down the centre - great for leaves. You could make it less dense and open out the stitches into a open fishbone stitch. I have used it as a filler stitch in my exotic flower petals. Tuesday, February 02, 2010. This week's stitch is RIBBED WHEEL FILLING:-. I would like to thank Myfanwy. Tuesday, January 26, 2010.

Fabric and Tile Masters

Fabric and Tile Masters. Info that makes it easier to understand some of the procedures we use to refinish and restore stone and fabrics. Saturday, June 26, 2010. Stone is available in two finishes: hone or polish. Polish is easy for most people to visualize - it is a shiny, glossy finish, and when viewed across a light source there will be a reflection. This is my definition of polish, I am sure there are others. Which gets us back to the subject of polishing marble. Honing is a story for another day.
