Fabric Epiphanies: July 2015

http://fabricepiphanies.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 31, 2015. Stash Busting Morris Number Two. Meet my second Grainline Morris Blazer. Once again, I shopped my stash and came up with another piece of ponti sourced at the op shop. This piece has been gathering dust for several years so it is nice to finally find a use for it. It was a really small piece at around one metre which necessitated some planning. I love this jacket and it has seamlessly fitted into my wardrobe. It will be just as useful as an extra layer for the spring. Some might sa...

Fabric Epiphanies: November 2014

http://fabricepiphanies.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 27, 2014. Pyjamas are usually well down on my priority list when it comes to wardrobe planning. Why, well, they are just plain booring right? Languishing in my ever increasing fabric stash, was a piece of crushed light weight knit from the op shop that I was struggling to actually find a purpose for. Pyjamas were the obvious choice. Teamed with a remnant of rayon knit for trim and using Papercut Anima and Tessuti Alexa patterns, I had a plan. Thursday, November 20, 2014. I noticed in t...

Fabric Epiphanies: August 2015

http://fabricepiphanies.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 21, 2015. Ginger Jeans Take Two. After making my first successful pair of Ginger Jeans. I downloaded the updated low rise version of the pattern and again taped it all together and increased the rise by 1.5cm in both the front and back. I made the stove pipe version narrow like the skinny version. Despite the measurements indicating a size 10, I cut the pattern to a size 6 and pretty much made it exactly to the pattern. Labels: Closet Case Patterns. Thursday, August 20, 2015. Our efforts w...

The Mermaid Bomber – Spare Room Style

https://spareroomstyle.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/the-mermaid-bomber

My sewing show and tell. March 24, 2015. January 3, 2016. This is the second bomber jacket I have made recently. I used my first. As a trial run for this one. And really, can you have too many bomber jackets? I don’t think so. The back of it features a panel of material purchased from spoonflower.com. 8211; apologies if you haven’t heard of this website before, I recommend having your credit card supervisor on hand before entering! Don’t you love how the chicken keeps photo-bombing me? Famous for a moment.

Linen & Leather (a two for one post) – Spare Room Style

https://spareroomstyle.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/linen-leather-a-two-for-one-post

My sewing show and tell. Linen and Leather (a two for one post). June 21, 2015. January 3, 2016. This is the second iteration of the top. Pattern I drafted off Simplicity 9037, the 1970 version. The lapis blue linen I picked up for $2 at Save Mart. The [p]leather I bought 20cm of from The Fabric Store. I put an exposed zip in the centre back seam to highlight the juxtaposition of the linen with the wet look finish. And now for the two-for-one:. The epiphany of the crotch seam! Another two for one post).

Helter Skelter Dress – pattern scissors cloth

https://patternscissorscloth.com/2016/02/17/helter-skelter-dress

Tricks of the Trade. Viscose helps too – being cool to the touch I find it one of the most comfortable fibres to wear in our humid summers. This was a viscose challis that I scored for $12 at the Moa fabric clearance. Last year. The print reminds me of helter skelters. 8211; do you remember them? What collar you say? Hidden by my hair in almost every photo except this windblown one is a stand collar, which is cut on the bias so it rolls nicely around the neckline. I will try and remember to put a hook an...

Bell Sleeve Peacock Print Shift Dress – pattern scissors cloth

https://patternscissorscloth.com/2016/05/08/bell-sleeve-peacock-print-shift-dress

Tricks of the Trade. Bell Sleeve Peacock Print Shift Dress. You guys might recognise this flamboyant purple peacock feather print – it is the one featured in the article I wrote a while ago on pattern placement. 8211; yes, I’ve finally cut it out and sewn it up into a 70’s style dress! Last year I made a black dress (oops – unblogged! In a similar style, and always intended to make a print version too – but I could never find the ‘right’ groovy print. After all the fuss about pattern placement. I opted f...

Neon Briar by Megan Nielsen | Offsquare

https://offsquare.wordpress.com/2015/07/27/neon-briar-by-megan-nielsen

Type your search terms above and press return to see the search results. A refashion and sewing blog. Neon Briar by Megan Nielsen. I love colour and usually the brighter the better. But it’s entirely possible that I’ve just found my limit. This fabric is a hi-viz pink merino from The Fabric Store. And it’s great for a blast of colour. It almost assaults my wintery, sun-starved eyes but I love it because it’s so unexpected when everyone else is wearing black. Well played, Megan. Well played. The neon aspe...

Sewing, fabric and making, an Australian sewing blog. BJ made in 2016. BJ made in 2015. BJ works in progress. BJ made in 2014. July 27, 2015. July 27, 2015. I made jeans and I’m just a bit pleased with myself. Fitted trousers or jeans have been on my wish list/to do list for ages. Then I acquired this fabric. A lovely soft brushed cotton(? With quite a bit of stretch. and you know……. 2 identical remnants from Tessuti! Both 1 m, enough for jeans even with nap. A Schmetz jeans needle. A stitch length of 4.

Lekala 4393 – THORNBERRY

https://thornberry.wordpress.com/2015/08/06/lekala-4393

Things I make and holidays we take. Thursday, 6 August, 2015. So, another experiment – this time Lekala 4393. Described simply as “knit dress”. Lekala patterns are so cheap that I really don’t mind experimenting with them. They are a great way to try out different styles, since I know that they will basically fit me (depending on what measurements I plug in) and consequently my opinion on the final garment will be more about whether I like the style on me than about whether it fits me or not. Also the un...

Alice in linen – THORNBERRY

https://thornberry.wordpress.com/2015/08/01/alice-in-linen

Things I make and holidays we take. Saturday, 1 August, 2015. Some completely non-seasonal sewing this time – a Tessuti Alice dress. The yoke and sleeve bands were cut from a tiny piece of remnant linen from Darn Cheap Fabrics. I had barely enough, since the yoke is completely self lined, as are the sleeve bands, but I made it work with some cross-grain cutting for some pieces and seemingly random cutting for others. All the visible pieces were cut correctly! Molly and Megan and Fay. And lucky you off to...

True Bias Sutton blouse – THORNBERRY

https://thornberry.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/true-bias-sutton-blouse

Things I make and holidays we take. True Bias Sutton blouse. Monday, 1 December, 2014. Tuesday, 2 December, 2014. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to resist giving the True Bias Sutton blouse. A try It has very similar lines to the In House Patterns Kimono Tee. That I have now made twice, except the Sutton blouse is designed for wovens rather than knits. My wearable muslin was made from a printed poly satin that was in stash. I know that I sized down, as it has a fair bit of ease. Maybe it was a. As a musl...

Sutton for Mum – THORNBERRY

https://thornberry.wordpress.com/2015/01/13/sutton-for-mum

Things I make and holidays we take. Tuesday, 13 January, 2015. Have you met my Mum? She does pop up on the blog every now and then – usually shortly after Christmas! It seems that sometimes the first garment that I sew for the year is for her, when I am visiting. Last year I made her a couple of Crafty Mamas Cherish dresses. Okay, the phone photos aren’t quite as clear as I’d like, but you can still tell that Mum looks great, can’t you! 9 thoughts on “ Sutton for Mum. I’ve got the Sutton printed ou...
