GCHQ: good employer, poor recruiter? | www.mattday.net

GCHQ: good employer, poor recruiter? I recently applied for a job at GCHQ. In Cheltenham. I didn't get it, so disclosing this publicly should be safe ;-). I won't say anything here about the position, other than it involved research that was potentially very interesting to me. However, I will note a few of the points which made it such a one-sided experience. Closing remarks: I appreciate this might read like a rant because I wasn't offered a job, but really, I think they can do better. Try the Face Quiz.

Pi Arrives | www.mattday.net

Through the letter slot this morning came one. With a slightly wonky composite video connector. (It's OK, it was in fact protected by a box and a jiffy bag). Months have passed since the order was placed, but what is this Pi destined for now? In the immediate future, probably nothing very interesting, although definitely not eBay. Try the Face Quiz. V7 Professional 1310 Webcam Review | www.mattday.net

V7 Professional 1310 Webcam Review. I could not find any reviews prior to purchasing this webcam. So having ordered it, I thought I would write a quick one myself. I needed a cheap webcam with a decent resolution to hack about with, and it seemed to fit the bill. It can be bought in the UK for under 10 including delivery and has a true 1.3MP sensor (1280x1024). So what can it actually deliver? This is a UVC. Slightly better built and better looking than some cheap webcams, although performance is not par...

Micro SATA Adapter | www.mattday.net

Very soon after getting my Compaq Mini 311, I replaced the slow 2.5" mechanical disk with a 1.8" SSD. A micro SATA adapter of the type shown in ( 1. Was bought for this purpose. In early 2010 there was not much choice here, with every other cheap micro SATA adapter looking exactly the same. I suspected it might be too big for installing a 1.8" disk in a 2.5" space, and it turned out it was. I tried to pick this away to leave the wiring intact, although ( 4. Shows that was not entirely successful.

Firefox Session Manager to Chrome Session Buddy. Import your saved web browsing sessions from Firefox's Session Manager to Chrome's Session Buddy! Google Chrome also has a decent session management extension called Session Buddy. This doesn't store the full set of data like Firefox/Opera, only the pages you are currently viewing. For most people moving from Firefox it will be an adequate replacement. However, you will want to access your old Firefox sessions, and now you can. I'm more than happy to find ...
