An old geek talking about some simple, retro-ish hacks. :-). Sunday, February 1, 2015. Final Thoughts for RC2015/01. The end of January has past, and thus came the end of another RetroChallenge. Event As usual there were a number of interesting projects started, several completed, and a few derailed along the way. Count my port of Fahrfall. To the Apple II. In the completed category! Of course, no software is ever finished. :-). And the "IN #2" and "PR #2" commands in BASIC. I used a 6502. As for what is...

Stupid VDG Tricks: March 2013
http://vdgtricks.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 29, 2013. Only another month until CoCoFEST! It sounds like this will be an extra good one.see you there? It will be a great chance for you to play Sluzzle. :-). When last we left Sluzzle, we were sorely in need of a loader to coordinate loading both the game binary itself and the pictures that are the object of the game. All of that could be added to the Sluzzle binary itself, but the built-in Disk Extended Color BASIC. Was just itching to help out! That might be helpful for people new to ...

Stupid VDG Tricks: July 2012
http://vdgtricks.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 29, 2012. I think we have had enough background now. Let's move on to see what our efforts have brought! The basic idea is to use two video modes to display somewhat different versions of the same original image. By alternating between these two images, we should produce an image that our eyes will blend into something that better represents the original than either does by itself. Mode Swapping w/ Independent Images. Given the above, one must wonder which mode's image is generated first?

Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Heyjust a guick update with a couple of links. I found some helpful Dragon. Folks that were interested in this project. One of them ran the code on his PAL. Dragon and posted the results on this thread. Surprisingly enough, the code seems to more-or-less work "as is". I know that the PAL CoCo's and Dragons use the same (NTSC-only) 6847 VDG. Then I will have to find another way to make it work. Show Me, Show Me, Show Me! John W. Linville. Saturday, February 9, 2013. There is ...

Retro Tinker: June 2013
http://retrotinker.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
An old geek talking about some simple, retro-ish hacks. :-). Sunday, June 30, 2013. It's that time again - the 2013 Retrochallenge. Over the past couple of years I've really enjoyed participating in these events. The regular schedule brings a sort of discipline that reminds me that I need a little "retro" time. So, here I go again. Project, but I also considered a game for a vintage console (e.g. the Intellivision. Attempting to adapt Boisy Pitre's Liber809. Project to an Atari 5200. That puts them withi...

Retro Tinker: January 2015
http://retrotinker.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
An old geek talking about some simple, retro-ish hacks. :-). Saturday, January 31, 2015. The end of RetroChallenge. Running on the Apple II. Well, sure it is (at least for the IIe. The last couple of days have seen a flurry of feature development, but I think the result is looking fairly good. My last post talked about adding color patterns to the platforms and using another LFSR. L I thought that was resolved by some code optimization. But the issue returned when I attempted to merge. That allows for gr...
