1000 Days of Summer →. November 11, 2012. I live in Africa. Let m just take a minute to let that sink in… Because even though it’s been reality for quite sometime, I just can’t get my head around it. I mean, I pay taxes to the Tanzanian government, I have a retirement fund here. My work permit (if it ever arrives) will say that I am a resident of Tanzania. How strange is that? So yes, I live in Africa. Is it inconvenient sometimes? Is it terribly hard? This entry was posted in Africa. 1000 Days of Summer.

If I could, I w… →. I thought it was just me…. April 14, 2013. So many people have an idealistic view of teaching. I did. I thought, “It’s such a noble career – training the young minds of tomorrow.” When I picked teaching to study, in my mind I had a “Jess of. Vision in my head. I would make dioramas and dress up like characters from books and I would entertain, love and transform my students into better versions of themselves. Less I seem to enjoy it. I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME…. Enter your comment here.

Battleship | A Unique View

What makes you itch? Is it abuse… →. February 6, 2013. Growing up I loved the game battleship. I always wanted to play it but it’s a two person game and I was an only child… it’s just not the same when you are playing both sides. In math, I’m working with my 5th graders on reading and plotting coordinates on grids. For a lack of resources and fun teaching ideas, I decided to have them play battleship on a coordinate grid. Except no one knew how to play! How do kids not know how to play battleship?

Is it abuse…. March 15, 2013. So teach 10 year olds here in Africa. We have been working on a shape and space unit in maths. Today on the study guide for our test, there is an angle review. Students had to measure an angle with a protractor and then label it acute, right or obtuse. One student said, “Miss Tiffany, is this angle abuse? 8221; To which another student replied, “YES, this whole study guide is abuse! 8221; …One of those rare moments when I absolutely love my job.
