Thoughts on Writing and Life from Author Annette Smith. Friday, January 27, 2006. For example. Two women. Both of them my friends. One admiring the other's enormous red purse. First woman. "Sure do like your purse.". Second woman. Owner of the purse. "Yeah. It's okay. But I wish it was bigger. You can't get nice big purses like you used to.". First woman. "Why would you need a purse bigger than that one? What else do you need that you can't carry in this one? Dog woman. Articulating each individual w...

Life is never what you thought it'd be. Saturday, July 29, 2006. Irritating Fictional Artists I Love. I've been recommending The Horse's Mouth. To a certain somebody. For a couple of months. Right now she's reading Chesterton's take on artists. I should read Chesterton, too, but the regional. Library near my home hasn't any Chesterton on its fiction shelves. (It's a lovely building, but it's collection is ever so lame, and I haven't the brain cells to properly lament what that means just now.). This past...

Abundant Blessings in Review: March 2007
http://jlcaryreviews.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Abundant Blessings in Review. Sunday, March 25, 2007. A Valley of Betrayal- A Review. History. The word brings about strong feelings you either love it or hate it. What I’ve learned though is that most people who claim to hate it usually had a teacher who focused on dates and names and forgot that history is full of people, personalities, and amazing grace. Hasn’t forgotten that. And she proves it again with her latest book A Valley of Betrayal. As I read A Valley of Betrayal. However, Tricia uniquely wr...

Abundant Blessings in Review: August 2006
http://jlcaryreviews.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Abundant Blessings in Review. Saturday, August 12, 2006. I love history. I have since I was little and my dad would tell me stories about when he was in World War II. Of course, he was careful about sharing things a child shouldn’t know. Was careful, too. She skillfully shared a part of the war that, to my knowledge, hasn’t been widely known. Without overly graphic intent, she opened my eyes to the horrors, the truth and bravery of my parents’ generation. And she did it well. Posted by Jenny @ 4:54 PM.

Abundant Blessings: July 2007
http://jlcary.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 28, 2007. To All the Dogs I've Loved Before. I'm a dog lover. Okay, so I like cats, too, but, for their own safety, I do not own any while I live in the same house with my husband. (Don't boo and hiss- he has to have at least one flaw! Does He stroke my head like I did Pugsley's that day? Since then I've looked differently at my canine friends and I've received a few life lessons in the process. Jack could just tell when I was sad and liked to rest next to me. KD was sure she she was human.
