Fallen Soldiers And Their Survivors. On Volunteerism: Cast thy bread upon the waters for thou shalt find it after many days. First published as On Volunteerism: Cast thy bread upon the waters for thou shalt find it after many days. I knew what would happen when I published the post, and am writing to confirm that, sad to say, my expectations were met. Fallen Soldiers And Their Survivors. Pvt Isaac T Cortez: From the Bronx to Iraq to a Return Home, Too Soon. This site honors some of our Fallen Soldiers. It is if course impossible to honor them all, and as an individual, I can honor only a few. Though I am not officially a member of the U.S. Army, I have become a volunteer part of it, as well as all our other military. And, as is the case with any soldier, you don’t get to pick your missions. They are picked for you. However, this mission differs from m...

Diary No. 17 by Swanson Shields, 1934, Part 1. One of my dad’s most treasured posessions was a journal he kept of a trip that he took with his older brother Lynwood (after whom I am named) in August, 1934, from Lynchburg, Virginia to Pontiac, Michigan, the month of his 18th birthday. I am going to post the contents of that journal in a series of posts, starting with this one, to both share them with you and, more importantly, knowing that I will be thinking of him as I type each word. To Pontiac, Michigan.
