Buddy, can you spare a dime? An iota of inconvenience? Who is my family? Who is my neighbor? Who deserves my help? I find a significant number of folks who believe in "taking care of our own," but that sounds more like "When I have all I want. For me and mine, I'll worry about if lesser folks have what they need.". How much judgement and disdain will we heap on God's children and our neighbors, our fellow countrymen and fellow citizens of the world in order to justify our unsated and frivolous wants?

This has been a very busy week! I've been feeding my VBS family. It has been such a joy to hear the laughter of children and teens and adults as they play games, sing, do crafts and eat together. There are so many was people are connecting in both formal ways such as worship and introductions and informal ways by laughing together and singing together - gentle conversations and fleeting glances in passing. No energy to waste. The instinct to defend ourselves was part of how we have survived to these modern times. But oh how it has spun out of control! It is one thing to band together to ward off attack by wild animals or a neighboring group that seeks their survival at the cost of our own. But now we act as though the smallest insult (intended or only perceived) is cause to verbally and financially assault any comers. But always strive to do what is good for each other B. And for everyone else.

What is more devastating, the evening news or THAT phone call that means life is forever changed? What could I have done to prevent this? And maybe eventually, as we share the journey of other families dealing with criminal behavior and/or incarceration, we begin to say, "Thank God it was not worse". Domestic violence is often worse for many reasons, but two stand out:. 1) Try as we might, it is hard not to blame the victims, at least adults, but even children are asked, "Why didn't you tell any one?

A few years ago I dreaded going out on Mother’s Day. Miscarriages will do that to you. People assume you’re a mother and then you break down crying and the well-wisher assumes all mothers are crazy and becomes sympathetic to Norman Bates. Your response is I’ll may never have kids! And it happened to me a few years ago.
