Half-Pint Farm

Monday, January 9, 2017. These darn peat pots never work for me, and I still keep trying. So glad we didn't buy the property next to us. They brush hogged it and it's even wetter than we realized. A very warm March meant I got my raised bed planted, then covered with a garden blanket. Dandelion salve, plantain salve, and jewel weed salve (which was a saving grace when A. got poison sumac. this was the only thing that gave her any relief.). A walk along a nearby(ish) river. Nearly all home grown frittata.

Half-Pint Farm: Keeping House

http://farminginmyapron.blogspot.com/2016/05/keeping-house.html

Monday, May 23, 2016. Tragically, I was not born with the "automatically knows how to keep house" gene. But not the hour or just over that we *had* been doing when we followed my lists. So, having finished school for the summer last Thursday, today was THE day. And guess what? Now if you'll excuse me, I have a load of laundry to hang out and lunch to come up with. And B.'s tilling the garden this evening! The lines are for any extra jobs that may come up. So far I've managed to avoid that though.

Half-Pint Farm: April 2015

http://farminginmyapron.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 1, 2015. Ain't No April Fools Joke. Nope, this really is a post from me. And there is a good reason I never posted from the rest of January straight through to now. Every post would have said "Today it snowed." and had this photo accompanying it. And since most of you could look out your own windows and see the same thing, what would make my snow any more exciting? I suppose there would have been a few interesting things mixed in, like seed catalogs, orders and first plantings. Summer on...

Half-Pint Farm: Post Surgery Update

http://farminginmyapron.blogspot.com/2016/03/post-surgery-update.html

Friday, March 25, 2016. This is actually from her napping (finally) the other day. Thank you all for praying! Claire's surgery went well, but was long, over 7 hours. They opened her skull up from the back and top by 2 cm. (almost 3/4 of an inch). The skin has been stretched tightly to cover it and this will be a long painful recovery. The pressure is normal now! March 25, 2016 at 10:42 AM. I feel so badly that she has to go through all this! March 25, 2016 at 9:24 PM. April 14, 2016 at 2:17 PM. I live wi...

Spilled: Because My Cup Overflows: February 2015

http://www.davenespilled.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 28, 2015. A Pregnancy Update of Sorts. If you've known me for a while and/or have been reading my blog during my last three pregnancies (pregnancies #1 and #2 happened before I knew about blogging! But not this time. It's NOT that I'm not happy about being pregnant. As a matter of fact, I'm THRILLED to be honored once again with the privilege of carrying a tiny one within me; and I long for the day when I can hold him (or possibly her. In my arms, like the beautiful figurine below.

Spilled: Because My Cup Overflows: Why Spilled?

http://www.davenespilled.com/p/why-spilled.html

I feel like I'm always. Needing to clean something up! My reason for having this blog is two-fold: first, that by spilling my words here, I will be better equipped to release the stresses of my messy life and, consequently, hang onto the truly important aspects that are left when the temporal is gone, and second, that the heart-overflow that occurs here would somehow spill into the lives of my readers and be, in some small way, a blessing to them. I have ridden a camel in the Negev; watched the splendor of a sunrise from a North Carolina beach; been kissed in a secret cove in Petra; performed a Bach partita in a recital hall in Pennsylvania; been proposed to beside the Western Wall in Jerusalem and underneath tall oaks in Virginia and in Lover's Cove on Catalina Island off California's coast (all by the same man! Monday, August 31, 2015. And Now, Folks, for Our After-Dinner Entertainment.". I would really like for those two English walnut trees to be cut down soon," I announced at the dinner table this evening. I was thinking that Dad might be able to arrange for Alex, the man who rents the gray house from Dad (and who conveniently happens to have a lawn-mowing and landscaping business), to cut down the trees sometime this fall. I can do that," Jeff surprised me by saying. Well, let me clarify: he started. 6 I lo...

Saturday, May 30, 2015. The Golden Second Trimester. Sometimes I almost forget I'm pregnant. It's not that I forget that, Lord willing, we'll have a new little baby boy in our house when September comes. Oh no, he. Is never far from my thoughts; and my conversations as well as my daydreams reflect that. Tobin asks, "When will choir start again for me? A dozen or more times a day, I think about him. And joy and anticipation accompany such thoughts. But even still, I forget I'm pregnant. But the best part ...

Spilled: Because My Cup Overflows: This Is Really Happening, Isn't It?

http://www.davenespilled.com/2015/08/this-is-really-happening-isnt-it.html

Tuesday, August 4, 2015. This Is Really Happening, Isn't It? At the moment, my back is feeling better than it did last evening. So I'm seizing this opportunity to type as fast as I can think, so I can maybe get this pregnancy update finished at last before my back starts screaming at me again, and I seek refuge far away from an upright chair at the computer desk. ;-). Months ago, on the last day of February, I wrote this in another pregnancy update. Because I'll need to wear those clothes quite a few tim...

Thursday, April 30, 2015. It Just Feels Right for This to Be a Boy. I've done a fair amount of floating today, buoyed up by the knowledge we learned yesterday at our ultrasound- we're having a boy! Now before I go any further, let me say that if we had found out that we are having a girl, I'm sure I would have felt an equal amount of elation, because truly, either way would have been great! But as it is, I'm so very excited to know that a tiny little son is growing within me! I bought five frames that sa...

Spilled: Because My Cup Overflows: Warning!

http://www.davenespilled.com/p/warning.html

Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the world! I'm grateful that you're here; but there is a danger - actually, two - in coming here, and you should know about them. Or imagine that you see a picture of one of my older boys cuddling with and reading to one of his little brothers, and you think to yourself, "My oldest would never take the time to do that for my youngest! Does that make you feel unsuccessful as a mother? But there's another danger: when I share my struggles and failings, it might be ...

Monday, July 27, 2015. School Planning, and Strange Produce. For months (half a year, perhaps? Ideas for this coming school year have been bouncing around in my head, but haven't made it onto. A document on the computer. It's time to change that. :). With the added.shall we say? Of having a baby in the middle of September :), I realize that a few things will be keys to making the official school year flow smoothly: good planning, an early start (August 10 is what I'm thinking), and bushels of flexibility!
