A Farmwife's Diary: Encourage or Discourage: Which Would You Choose?
http://farmwifesdiary.blogspot.com/2014/09/encourage-or-discourage-which-would-you.html
Life on a farm in northern Kentucky, where we have horses, goats, and poultry. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Encourage or Discourage: Which Would You Choose? This week I saw something happen online that I found very sad, and which has been bothering me. I saw someone who was new to a particular breed of chicken, posting in a group on Facebook which is one of several devoted to that breed. Imagine the effect that would have on someone new to a breed! There were no suggestions on what she could do to work w...
A Farmwife's Diary: The Book Bag
http://farmwifesdiary.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-book-bag.html
Life on a farm in northern Kentucky, where we have horses, goats, and poultry. Thursday, December 26, 2013. I have always been a voracious reader. As a child, I preferred reading to almost any other activity (except maybe riding horses.) I remember one time my father came into my room (which faced the street), pointed out the window and said "Why don't you go out and play with the other kids? But Dad, I'm reading. Or, in the case of my cowboy husband, he and A set up a rope-tying practice session with a ...

Life on a farm in northern Kentucky, where we have horses, goats, and poultry. Sunday, January 4, 2015. Shipping Chicks - Baby Chickens in the Mail. For the past five years or so I've shipped day-old Buckeye chicks all across the US, about 400 or so a year. This year I'm taking off, for several reasons, and encouraging others to pick up the baton and run with it, to get some of their lines out there. One of those is my friend Sharon Fildes. And for those of you who haven't shipped chicks before because y...

Life on a farm in northern Kentucky, where we have horses, goats, and poultry. Sunday, January 12, 2014. Two Knives and Some Fat*. I have always loved pie. I love making it. I love eating it. But I have never gotten the Holy Grail of crusts down perfectly, and in my mind, that's a lard-based crust. Just the basics, like our grammas used to make. I told A today that I was going to make a pie a week for a year until I got it right. She said (and rightly so) "That's a lotta pies! Like my friend Julie. A fri...

For the Love of Chickens, Goats and Art! Lil Blue Run Oberhasli Dairy Goats. Tiffanie Mullens Fine Art. Sunday, March 21, 2010. A couple days ago my grandfather called my mother, saying that he had something in his tree. He wasn't sure what it was and thought it might be a cat. After some investigation my mother found it to be a eastern screech owl. The next day I did some investigation of my own and managed to capture a couple pictures of this red morph eastern screech owl in its hole. Flowers are bloom...

A Farmers Wife
Loving life and my farmer. Monday, May 7, 2012. Umm mom you left me in this thing. The solution to our problem was the plastic yard cart. Since the bumbo floats a little bit Cora could make it rock when she pushed off the sides of the cart. Great entertainment. She seems to enjoy the water as long as it's not splashed on her face. She holds her breath and then starts gasping for air if she thinks its getting to close. Links to this post. Monday, April 30, 2012. Links to this post. Sunday, April 15, 2012.

Farmwifery
Journal of a modern farm wife. Saturday, June 2, 2012. What does a farm wife do? Popping in to lend a hand to the crew when I get a chance, hosting a once a week playgroup in our children's garden. Sitting inside while it is sunny and dry out trying to wrap up computer work when I really should save it for when the kids are asleep. So here I go to get out into that sunshine! Have any burning questions about farm life? I'd be so curious, feel free to leave a comment. Thursday, March 1, 2012. We dusted off...
A Farmwife's Diary
Life on a farm in northern Kentucky, where we have horses, goats, poultry, and bees. What I do when I'm not farming. Saturday, March 17, 2018. Using Winter Sowing to Start Seeds. Yellow onions in their winter sowing jug. This is the first year I am using a seed starting technique called Winter Sowing. It's pretty simple, and allows you to start seeds without using grow lights, heat mats, or a greenhouse or cold frame. 4 Add about four inches of the pre-moistened soil so it's filled almost to the cut.

Recipes for the season. Help bridge a gap between farmer and consumer. August 13, 2015. What are we up to? I thought I’d show you in pictures how busy we are at the moment. A little lake time earlier this month. Dad and son driving the boat. Looking at some grasshoppers attacking our crops this month. This was on our corn. Turning up the soil on our conventional ground and getting rid of weeds. Some baking happened as well. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls anyone? Great advocate for Ag. June 25, 2015. Lexy Goy...

Help bridge a gap between farmer and consumer. January 6, 2017. My door is open…. As I sit here thumbing through piles of paperwork, and numbers upon numbers entering into my bookkeeping on my computer, getting ready for another tax season. Here is my letter to those of you that are seeing all these scary things. Not only will I listen, but I will try to underst...
