Fashion Me French: Leave it to the French to Create a Mob Over Wine
http://fashionmefrench.blogspot.com/2011/01/leave-it-to-french-to-create-mob-over.html
Friday, January 14, 2011. Leave it to the French to Create a Mob Over Wine. In November, the F ê. De Beaujolais (or Festival of Beaujolais en anglais). Celebrates the release of the Beaujolais brand’s new wine of the year with free tastings. Oddly enough, they choose to release it on a Wednesday night at midnight, probably because they know you have to teach a class very early in the next morning, yet that you are also irresistibly drawn to the promise of free wine, and because they hate you. My friend w...
Fashion Me French: My Top 10 Wine-Related Moments in France
http://fashionmefrench.blogspot.com/2011/07/my-top-10-wine-related-moments-in.html
Thursday, July 28, 2011. My Top 10 Wine-Related Moments in France. A French Army Knife. (Get it? Getting enthusiastic and knowledgeable wine recommendations from total strangers. In the supermarket. On a regular basis. Drinking wine in a metro stop on Saint Patrick's Day with all my friends. Trivia Tuesdays at The Smoking Dog, one of the best pubs in Vieux Lyon. Easily-thrown together picnic lunch of brie, baguette, muscat, fois gras, and Maille mustard from Dijon. The vineyard we tasted at in Beaujolais.
Fashion Me French: Fois Gras, Champagne, and Awkward Facial Hair in Lyon
http://fashionmefrench.blogspot.com/2011/01/fois-gras-champagne-and-awkward-facial.html
Thursday, January 27, 2011. Fois Gras, Champagne, and Awkward Facial Hair in Lyon. I recently went to a fois gras and champagne exhibition, because the invite contained the magic word: gratuit. Means “free” like being free from one’s chains, but not all of the liberté, égalité, or fraternité in the world can compare to gratuit. Because that means “free” as in “does not cost any money.” I’m there! If fois gras had a "before" picture, this would be it. The "after" picture would be a jar. The fashion, the h...

Fashion Me French: June 2011
http://fashionmefrench.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 6, 2011. Brief reference to cookies = Excuse to post this picture. What is it about computer solitaire that makes it so frustrating when you don't win, but when you do. Win, you feel absolutely no sense of accomplishment? You lose five games and win the sixth, and you expect to feel rewarded for your efforts. Instead it just feels like I wasted precious moments of my life. Like I need to get outside, to speak to people and feel the sun. Thursday, June 2, 2011. Hmmmm What does that mean?

Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Thursday, December 16, 2010. Mauvaise nouvelle de nouveau. Jane's Dad died this past weekend after a long illness. His suffering is over. It was hard but Jane was able to have some great talks with him in his last days. Thank goodness that we live in an age where communication is so amazing. A bientôt Ralph. Tu nous manqueras. Adventures in France: Les Calanques
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011/06/les-calanques.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. It would probably surprise many folks to hear that the French are avid hikers. The american view of the chain-smoking Parisien doesn't quite match the reality: the French are crazy for hiking. No wonder: the countryside in the south is simply an enormous field of "baby mountains". July 22, 2011 at 9:38 AM. I went to Cassis during my last month in France to check out the Calanques! Adventures in France: February 2011
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Saturday, February 12, 2011. Ok…so this is supposed to be a blog about France adventures but we took a side trip (an adventure from our adventure? It was very different to be back in an English speaking locale. I was feeling the usual anxiety (will I understand them? Every time I talked to a stranger. But surprise! That said, I was surprised that I sometimes struggled to understand the British accent. Wednesday, February 9, 2011. We finally go...

Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Thursday, June 16, 2011. I love this town. 2 hours west of Aix. 10 minutes from the mediterranean. Twice the size of Aix. Adventures in France: March 2011
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Sunday, March 20, 2011. Je habite au paradis. When we got back to our apartment there was a young woman across the street singing opera out her window ("across the street" is about 5 meters by the way). We then spent the afternoon climbing to the top of Sainte Victoire, the local mountain icon. It was about 4 hours and 2000 feet of ascent. Specatular. More photos of our trip to the summit. Friday, March 11, 2011. Friday, March 4, 2011. And on ...
Adventures in France: You can't come in. No, really. You CAN'T come in.
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011/05/you-cant-come-in-no-really-you-cant.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Friday, May 27, 2011. You can't come in. No, really. You CAN'T come in. The French have a different level of security need than Americans. The French take access to their abode very seriously. I'm sure I have seen hundreds of french homes in my time in France and I think they ALL have fences with gates. The gates are awkward, break a lot, often left open because they no longer work but a gate is "obligitoire" here. June 6, 2011 at 10:52 AM.
Adventures in France: That will be blah, blah, blah euros please
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011/07/that-will-be-blah-blah-blah-euros.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Saturday, July 2, 2011. That will be blah, blah, blah euros please. When we first arrived in France I realized my comprehension of french numbers was quite weak. I'd never appreciated how important it is to have a great grasp of numbers. Numbers are SO integrated into our consciousness. Translation is just not possible if you want to survive in a francophone country. French Number Practice Tools. July 18, 2011 at 12:49 PM. Adventures in France: Tour de Provence
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011/04/tour-de-provence.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Friday, April 15, 2011. Last week my brother and sister-in-law arrived from the states for our “Tour de Provence” bike adventure. My brother and I had seven days to hit the routes of Provence. It was awesome. It was sunny every day we rode and the temperatures were almost too hot. We were also blessed with a helpful (and sexy) support team (our wives). Aix-Venelles-Rogne-Le Puy Sainte Réparade. Four category 5s and two category 4 climbs. Ideas...
Adventures in France: Yes sir, right away Mr. I Am Afraid
http://nosadventures.blogspot.com/2011/04/yes-sir-right-away-mr-i-am-afraid.html
Jim and Jane's journal of preparing for and living in France. Monday, April 4, 2011. Yes sir, right away Mr. I Am Afraid. French pronunciation continues to be a challenge for me. One of the mistakes I believe we make teaching language is that we wait too long to teach the subtleties of pronunciation. That is, we wait until AFTER we have already picked up bad habits that are hard to break. This leads to many, sometimes funny misunderstandings. Why do you want to lose your accent? Fashion Me French
Thursday, October 4, 2012. Why in dear god's name does France love yogurt so much? Saw this picture and was immediately, STRONGLY reminded of France. There is never enough yogurt in a French supermarket. Got five extra aisles? All of them. "Pourquoi pas? The french would say. Then they'd follow that up with "Let's not refrigerate our milk or our eggs, either. And while we're at it, let's make bacon a ridiculously expensive luxury item.". Wednesday, August 3, 2011.
