Sunday, November 24, 2013. Weekends are good. Some weekends are great. Once in a while, you have a weekend that is truly spectacular. Two weeks ago I went to Kuala Lumpur for the Asian Women's Empowerment conference. And I'm so glad I did! The whole thing kicked off with a wander through KL's streets sampling various goodies with Food Tour Malaysia. After the food tour, some of us went to a bar called the Helipad, which is, strangely enough, on an actual disused Helipad! My life abroad would definitely b...

Monday, September 30, 2013. Tamarind Laos Cooking Class - Market Tour. This post goes back a ways. More than a year, in fact. Vietnam's National Day. What it means now is that on and around that day every house is flying a Vietnamese flag, it's a day off work and there are probably communist concerts on street corners around the city. I'm actually not sure because when I get a long weekend I tend to go away! On this weekend in 2012 I went to Luang Prabang. View of the Eastern side of Luang Prabang. As wi...

Monday, December 9, 2013. My 5k run: Lifting the curse of the high school gym class. I ran a 5km race yesterday. Those who know me well will understand just what a miracle this is. No, not a miracle, because it’s not as if I’ve ever been injured and told I won’t ever walk again or anything like that. But it’s pretty amazing, considering that for most of my life I’ve hated. Sunset along my usual Hanoi running route. Mile in less than 10? Me, Ruby, and Samantha before the race. Or did you have good teacher...

Friday, October 26, 2012. Fruity Fridays - Sri Lankan mystery fruit number two! I mentioned last week that I went to Sri Lanka for two weeks. And that there was lots of fruit. One day at breakfast I had a choice between a glass of fresh fruit juice or a fruit plate. I asked for the fruit plate, and this is what I got:. That's FAR more fruit than I could ever eat in one sitting, but I gave it a pretty good try! I have absolutely no idea what this fruit actually is. Have you seen it or tried it before?

Thursday, November 29, 2012. Hanoi Food Challenge - The Final Day. It's taken me a while to get around to writing this - sorry! Better late than never, right? The final day of my Hanoi Food Challenge. I started the day by riding my bike over to Commune. A small cafe not too far from my apartment with a fabulous rooftop overlooking Tay Ho (West Lake). And stared at the view, trying to ignore the Viet couple next to me who were obviously having some kind of issues! By this time it was mid-afternoon on a G...

Culinary Wanderlust: July 2012
http://jennyskitchenmishmash.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 29, 2012. When it comes to baking, there are some goodies that are just notoriously hard. Of course of anything I could make, these things are the ones that I want to try the most, just to see if I can make these "impossible" treats. I guess I just think if I can make these, I can make anything! My failed first attempt at macarons. The flavour was ok, but the texture was all wrong! My friend Jacqui from Fashion and Pho. And of course the infamous Gingerbread Mausoleum. We started with this.

Tuesday, March 12, 2013. A Hanoi Tea Party. Ok, I know. It's been ages since I posted anything. That's partly due to my mind being somewhat distracted by other things, partly because I temporarily lost my urge to cook (I know, what? Don't worry, it's coming back! And mostly due to sheer laziness. I'll try to be better. A few weeks ago my friend Jacqui of Fashion and Pho. Had a tea party at her apartment. She made these delicious cheese scones which we ate with butter and more cheese. I somehow completely...
