Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher

Monday, June 2, 2014. Today was SOOOO much fun! My students took turns running their games and playing other students' games. The other 7th grade math teachers sent groups of 5 students over to test our games. I gave each student a stamp card which was their "payment" to play the games (usually one stamp). This was helpful for visiting students because they went back to class when their stamps were used. Two pairs of students did maze games where the dice decided your path. We also had the lollipop pull!

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: Octahedron Summary Activity

http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2013/07/octahedron-summary-activity.html

Sunday, July 7, 2013. One of my favorite summary activities this year was creating a octahedron with students throughout our 3-dimensional measurement unit (CMP Covering and Surrounding). A year ago I found this pin on Pinterest. When I saw this picture I visualized each face having an important vocabulary word or idea. Since I am not big on students memorizing formulas I thought I could use the summary questions to help students explain HOW to find volume and surface area of 3-d figures in words. I allo...

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: April 2014

Friday, April 25, 2014. EdExpo Favorite Sensory Objects. As promised I have many products I want to share that I learned about at the EdExpo in Dallas. The very first booth I visited was the Boinks. The second thing they showed me was the fidget. I LOVE the fidget! It is a small tube with a marble that you can move back and forth with your thumb - so simple! My other great sensory find was the The Dough Source. If you are in need of any sensory tools look into either of these products. Both of these ...

Fast Times of a Middle School Math Teacher: Scale Up Picture Class Project

http://fasttimesofamiddleschoolmathteacher.blogspot.com/2014/02/scale-up-picture-class-project.html

Monday, February 10, 2014. Scale Up Picture Class Project. By far I get the most emails about the candy wrapper project. Instead of candy wrappers we did a quick class project of scaling up a picture in pieces. I got this idea from our math coach (thanks Kelly! Who had great success with it in the past. He sent black and white pictures to use in groups or whole class. I decided to have the students enlarge one picture as a class. Check out the farmers mouth for an example of a student who CLEARLY did not...

Thoughts and Ramblings of a Future Educator. Newer posts →. How have I grown as a blogger? December 2, 2013. Thoughts and Ramblings of a Future Educator. With this quarter nearing its end, I’ve been spending a lot of time reminiscing and reflecting upon the work that I have done. Included in these thoughts is my work on this blog. Being one of the, initially, resistant people in our cohort towards Twitter and blogging, I feel like I have come a very long way in the right direction. Posted in BEDUC 425/437.

Mrs. W's Math-Connection: July 2012

Tuesday, July 31, 2012. A BIG project to end our year. Wow, I can't believe it's time to start back to school already! We had a really crazy end to our year with 3 schools closing and lots of teachers moving around. Thankfully, I didn't have to move this year, but there was still plenty going on and I completely forgot to blog about our last BIG project. Sadly, it also ended up being my last project as a seventh grade teacher since I'm getting moved to full-time eighth grade for the new year. Tales of Fr...

Friday, December 30, 2011. Middle and High School Blog Party. Told me about the middle and high school blog party, I was all in. When I first started blogging, I was feeling a bit left out. There are SO many adorable blogs for K-3 teachers but what about the middle school teachers? It's bad enough that we have to deal with the hormonal changes but now we can't get any love in blogland? I couldn't deal. I was having a Veruca Salt. Ok, it wasn't that serious, but still! Posted by Miss P. Today I'm linking ...

Thoughts and Ramblings of a Future Educator. Let’s talk about math! And then there was silence… →. We need to have a talk…. February 23, 2014. Thoughts and Ramblings of a Future Educator. This week in our math class, we were encouraged to draft a letter to parents explaining the new unit we would be teaching their students. It got me thinking about ways in which I can and should be connecting to parents and how this will look as I become more entrenched into the professional world of education. I have se...

Mrs. W's Math-Connection: Storage for Supplies

http://mrswsmathconnection.blogspot.com/2012/09/storage-for-supplies.html

Thursday, September 6, 2012. I have tried everything to try and have my supplies organized and accessible. However, for things like glue sticks, tape, dry erase markers, and scissors, I was getting tired of passing them out because we use them everyday. In our notebooks. I don't have tables in my room. I don't even have desks that can really be grouped. So, I got creative! A trip to Home Depot later, and here is what I had. September 9, 2015 at 8:18 AM. Interactive online math homework help.
