Get Real: March 2011
http://getbereal.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 28, 2011. For Futurists, exception from collision of machines. For Oulipians, from constraint of programs. For Jarryites, exception results from the corruption of memories (pg. 10). How do we define the kind of 'pataphysics we perform? More on this later. I guess we're after the Clinamen since we're looking at a system that values not equivalence or difference but the fate of its own contrivances (the contrivance here being rational logic and progress by way of scientific law). The Oulipian...

Drag Line: First attempts at "science" words for tropes
http://jtriley-dragline.blogspot.com/2011/04/first-attempts-at-science-words-for.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. First attempts at "science" words for tropes. The washability characteristics of a coal reserve are provided by obtaining liberation data on the raw coal. Liberation refers to the amount of physical breakage required to separate material of different material densities. Low density material is clean coal whereas high density material is reject (rock). The intermediate density material is called middlings. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal washing). A related term is interburden.

Sunday, April 3, 2011. 1 If Bok is correct that "revolution must paradoxically partake of the very discursive strategies that it opposes in order to be revolution" and if we are creating a "report" on our accident which will function as a "parody," then it follows that we should quote the *official* discourse of a report on our accident (or one of the particular instances). For me, its the Martin County Coal Slurry spill report:. Http:/ www.epa.gov/region4/waste/martincs.pdf. Theory 4 (Email 15).

Toward a Fatal Strategy. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. Jarry does not borrow scientific concepts so much as scientific conceits." (29). Jarry may posit this notion [ie, syzygia] within a medieval context.but such a principal of alliance does provide a pretext for postmodern philosophy about the theme of syncretism.conceits which conjoin as much as they disjoin, inverting, while equating, the values of the binary that must support them" (40-1). Get Real: Play & Mystery
http://getbereal.blogspot.com/2011/04/play-mystery.html
Sunday, April 3, 2011. Early on in Man, Play and Games, Caillois has a line on the relationship between play and mystery that I find a bit puzzling, so puzzling that it's worth quoting at length:. Caillois insists that the simulation/vertigo pairing doesn't encourage play but expresses an institutional function. It is the institution in oral societies, the founding and unifying ceremony that the culture works toward, unified in its move toward symbolic exchange. March 18, 2013 at 4:48 PM. I agree that th...

Get Real: 'Pataphysical Inquiries (part 2, confabulate)
http://getbereal.blogspot.com/2011/04/pataphysical-inquiries-part-2.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. Pataphysical Inquiries (part 2, confabulate). So, in the disaster, we have a material (usually plastics and heavy metals) being burned, so a potential starting point is conflagration. Then again, the process by which it enters the human body would be dissipation. And also, the burning of something like a plastic, for example, results in melting and then vaporization. Let's put "dissipation" through the OED and see what's nearby. "Dissinew? Trans to deprive of 'sinew' or vigour.

Get Real: House & Ilynx?
http://getbereal.blogspot.com/2011/04/house-ilynx.html
Sunday, April 10, 2011. From my notes on Caillois:. The association of simulation and vertigo is so powerful that it naturally becomes part of the sacred, providing a principle base for terror and fascination given by the sacred. Civilization estranges us from their effects. (76). I suppose then that one of my primary challenges may be to present the sacred through civilization. If we're dealing with a house, how does that house become a church? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Legislation Education: Trope Diagram
http://legislationeducation.blogspot.com/2011/04/trope-diagram.html
Toward a Fatal Strategy. Wednesday, April 20, 2011. The review last week in class was very helpful in that it led me to diagram the operative slots of my Prezi in relation to Kovitz's project. Tenor: utopian social planning. Trope: evokes the horror concentration camps. Tenor: standardized testing based curriculum. Vehicle: the Jacquard Loom (first machine reader). Trope: evoke a sense of Derrida's theories of writing and his critique of metaphysical hierarchies. Labels: Disaster: SB 6. I am an Assistant...

http://legislationeducation.blogspot.com/2011_01_23_archive.html
Toward a Fatal Strategy. Saturday, January 29, 2011. Before the Scantron, There was the Jacquard Loom. What is striking to me about the Jacquard loom as compared with the standardized testing machines of the 20th century is the differences of their outputs. The Jacquard loom read punched cards that were designed - with a specific visual/material output pattern in mind - in order to produce a textile such as a rug:. Thanks to Walton for giving me this lead.). Labels: Disaster: SB 6. 2) the personal narrat...
