All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible." With out the first two things in my life I would be lost.

Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. There's no place like. I am currently immersed in paper writing about my internship in Ghana. And simultaneously struggling to sum up all that my internship held. Development, NGOs, cleft palate surgery, program development, Ghana, Burkina, elsewhere. It's been.a summer. Though I struggle to find words to articulate all that the summer has been I am grateful. The Thing About TOMS. So I took this as my chance to do my own 'inves...

Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. As a part of our formal welcome to Dzelukope we attended a ceremony at the Paramount Chief’s (or Tugbi’s). Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. Turn your bike off the main road onto the dirt path that's engrained in the field. Riding towards the big tree ahead you see the teacher's table, and hundreds of children sprawled across the schoolyard for free period. You park your bike, inform the teachers why you are here, and follow an older student to the Director's office. You look to your colleague, and she mouths "What do we do? You catch your colleague's eye and turn a...

Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. Until this past weekend the last time I saw, or spoke with, Festus was the last weekend of June. The other interns had taken off to Tamale to explore the city, and I took a working weekend in Sandema while waiting to travel down to Kumasi with the moms and babies. Don't get in any accidents okay? He smiled and shook his head. "Oh. No, no." he said. Okay then," I replied "but drive safe! That was almost four weeks ago. Festus ha...

Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. In Ghana they say even birds must return to land. This is a metaphor for the fact that there comes a time for each person to return home. For me, right now, my time to be home in Calgary is now. I’m leaving my Africa home for a while, and trusting that in God’s time I will take flight here again too. The 8 boys at FH) , and the fabulous team behind Father’s House, have carved a place in my heart. I have just arrived back home.

Brittany in West Africa. Canada, Burkina Faso, Ghana and all the in-betweens. It has been more than a year of silence on this blog,. But it has still be a year of adventure. It has been an intense year full of life, learning, and loveable moments. There's no way to sum-up a 12 months, so here's the briefest glimpse. I have been working in a full-time co-op position with the Centre for Community-Engaged Learning. The single biggest highlight of my work terms was working. The thesis writing process!
