It's a dad thing....: August 2010

http://fatherwork.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

It's a dad thing. Wednesday, 11 August 2010. As a fatherhood researcher, people often look to me for a nod on this. I've written a bit about that on this blog before, but today I'm guest-posting over at the Enterprise Nation website. Pop over and take a look. Links to this post. Tuesday, 10 August 2010. Others fathers have commented how some activities – like coffee mornings and chats – are enjoyed more by mums than by dads. And other research with fathers who take on primary childcare ro...Of course I w...

It's a dad thing....: Playing dad's way

http://fatherwork.blogspot.com/2010/08/playing-dads-way.html

It's a dad thing. Tuesday, 10 August 2010. Her big eyes widen in surprised delight every time she’s lifted up high above your head. And she beams as she comes down, caught safely in your warm hands. You’re laughing and she’s laughing, and it feels good to be a dad. What do you think? Do you play with your children in ways that are different to your partner? Would you rather roll around with your children or paint a picture? Is rough play a dad-thing? And does it depend on the time of day?

It's a dad thing....: Thanks for white ribbons and other things

http://fatherwork.blogspot.com/2010/11/thanks-for-white-ribbons-and-other.html

It's a dad thing. Thursday, 25 November 2010. Thanks for white ribbons and other things. Today, most of the USA will be ensconced in its Thanksgiving celebrations, and I know that lots of fathers there are looking forward to the family time that this often brings. With all this thanks going on today, I’ve decided to throw my lot into the melting pot too. In my research, fathers expressed their thanks for a number of different things:. Thanks that my ill wife recovered and was able to have a natural birth.

A Dad's Heart: March 2011

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Monday, March 28, 2011. The Other "L" Word. Remember the early courtships—the excitement, the titillation and eventually the feeling that you were really falling for someone? I can recall a lot of those relationships. And I can recollect the anxiety around whether to use the “L” word or not. So what often came out instead? 8220;I love spending time with you” or “I love being your boyfriend.”. With his eyes closed and the hint of a smirk on his face, I lifted him out...

A Dad's Heart: November 2010

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Friday, November 5, 2010. Recently, I blogged about my 4 year-old’s first case of heart break. It had to do with the departure of his best friend, Louis, as he left daycare to start kindergarten. I was amazed by my son’s level of both understanding and acceptance, fully imbued with genuine sadness. This time, however, there was something new to their play routine. In the middle of playing wolf-hikers or any one of their other made up games, Connor would suddenly pro...

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Volcanoes, Self-Esteem and Travel tips for Dads. You are looking at a photo of Mt. Rainer from my flight from Vancouver to Omaha for the 15th Annual At Home Dads convention. I’ve seen Mt. Rainer a million times, so why take a photo today? In my corporate workshops for dads. When I told my four year-old son the other day that I was going away on a plane trip today, he asked if he could come with me. At Home Dads convention. I had an essa...

A Dad's Heart: September 2011

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Friday, September 23, 2011. When I was a kid, every year on my birthday my mom would make me promise that I wouldn't have another birthday for an entire year. First I thought she was trying to be funny. Later, I thought she was nuts. Now I get it. I was growing up way too fast. Despite the cliche moment which was charged with such emotion, calmness prevailed. Until it was time to let go. As Connor's new teacher guided us to the classroom, the tears began to well up&...

A Dad's Heart: February 2011

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Monday, February 14, 2011. To Love Your Spouse Is To Love Your Kids. I am a full believer that the best thing that couples can do for their kids is to keep their own relationship healthy and strong. Not only does it help maintain a loving and secure environment in which the kids can thrive, it sets the example for what they should expect from a healthy relationship when they reach adulthood. I should know. I'm guilty of doing it with my own kids. Now, I am not going...

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Wednesday, May 23, 2012. It is as sacred a moment as any father and son can share. It rivals the first game of catch, the first tree house, or even the first beer ….and it was with giddy anticipation that I shared this moment with my 6 year old son. 8220;Connor,” I said, barely able to hold it in, “pull my finger.”. It's a Kidney Stone! 8220;You know,” said the paramedic as I was writhing on the floor of the ambulance, “they say that kidney stones are the closest pain to childbirth.". 8220;Yeah,” I gasped, “but at least my wife got five minutes between one minute contractions…plus we got a baby in the end.”. I'm not one for traditional gender roles, but I'm happy to leave childbirth to women. August 17, 2011 at 11:02 AM. Dani'l Lower back pain kidney.

A Dad's Heart: Just Bragging!

http://adadsheart.blogspot.com/2012/06/just-bragging.html

Changing the world, one Dad at a time. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. I remember after becoming a new dad, how every little phase seemed to be the greatest. First, just holding my newborn and feeling his little body rise up and down as he slept on my chest was miraculous (well, I guess it still is.). Various stages in his development—smiling, walking, learning to fetch me a beer—all elicited this same, “This stage is just the best” response from me. So you think I would have learned by now. With each turning ...

Homilies by a Catholic Priest from Rhode Island. Homily — Good Friday 2017. June 26th, 2017. Homily Good Friday MMXVII 4/14/17. In my Palm Sunday Homily this year I talked about a book I recently read about the beginning of World War II, for our country at least; and in this my Good Friday homily, I’m going to talk about another book I recently read, about the end of World War II.
