The Children's Center Staff consists of a Director and an office assistant. There are eight lead teachers, all having the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential. We have 3 certified after school teachers, 12 assistants, and a dietician with two assistants. All classes have a lead teacher and an assistant with teacher/child ratios as follows:. About the Children's Center. Martha Best Children's Center started in September, 1968 with 42 children enrolled. Our programs include: Day Care, Nursery School, After School and Summer Care. Our purpose is to provide day care services, nursery school experiences and after school care for the children in a safe and nurturing environment. The Children's Center is an integral program of First Baptist Church and relates with other church programs through appropriate church committees and structure.

Our Day Care and Nursery School programs are designed to provide preschool readiness activities to the children in our care. We make every effort to provide a wide variety of activies to promote the development of the total child. Each teacher has a daily lesson plan with age appropriate activites that balance the child's physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spirtiual development. In addition, the children have a library story hour each month as well as a visit from the bookmobile.
