26 Miles 4 MND. It’s May Day bank holiday weekend in the UK, and I’ve added a new page. To the site as a May Day celebration. I’ve called the new page. 8220;Melting Pot”. Because my practice of mindfulness has shown me that our differences really are only surface deep. So, in the spirit of May Day, see it as a celebration of “ordinary” people. There are many more interesting people. Pictures on Mindful Photos’ new page. Why not brew a cup of tea and have a leisurely browse? Here’s the link again. Follow ...

26 Miles 4 MND. Life’s a carnival (sometimes). Have you ever been to an event and found the audience more interesting than the performance? 8220;oooohh missis”. If so, you probably love people photography. It’s what normally happens to me when I have a camera in my hand. Even on the rare occasions I’m without one, I find myself imagining the shots I could be taking. It happened to coincide with the Bakewell Carnival, which is a big event for the small town of Bakewell. Thankfully not everyone found it ne...

26 Miles 4 MND. Home alone – (& mindfully creative). As a person disabled by MND. I freely admit there are days when I’m just too tired, ill, stiff, painful (or all of the above) to get out of the house. So in glass half empty terms, my photographic opportunities on those “home-alone” days are limited. Looking battered but still free. Take interesting photographs without leaving the house! A few days ago I was exhausted and had a home alone day. I set myself a small challenge: to mindfully create fou...

26 Miles 4 MND. Beggars belief Romania 1992, pt. 4. When I was travelling through Romania in 1992 with my future wife Ali, we witnessed a tremendous amount of poverty. An unconscious Romanian is pecked by geese by a main street. After seeing news reports at home in England, we had prepared ourselves for crowds of orphaned “street children”, but in fact hardly saw any. Instead it was the sheer numbers of disabled people begging for spare change that shocked and upset us. The railway station family. Unfort...

26 Miles 4 MND. Family transport – Romania 1992, pt. 3. As we travelled by train through Romania there were so many photogenic looking towns and villages with stations, we sometimes just got off to explore. Never exactly sure where we were, we felt safe in the knowledge that there’d be another train along soon. These two pictures were taken at a couple of those stops. It was very soon after the downfall of Ceaușescu and many ordinary families were still using horse and cart to get about. May 11, 2015.

26 Miles 4 MND. I’m looking forward to taking more photographs from the relative comfort of a scooter after my productive experience at Hay. The other day I drove to a place where I hadn’t taken street photos before. When I saw the crowds and the grumpy look on most people’s faces, I have to admit, I chickened out. Trying to create street photographs whilst walking with crutches is tough at the best of times, but instinct told me I was in for a series of “did you just photograph me? The colours of Carling.

Primary Lateral Sclerosis - Living with PLS
http://www.ajcerda.com/primary-lateral-sclerosis
Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. - Jeremiah 6.16. What does PLS look and feel like? The primary symptoms are spasticity, weakness and a loss of balance. This causes a wide range of secondary symptoms including painful muscle cramps (in my calves, thighs, toes, and feet). PLS and ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis A.K.A. Lou Gehrig’s Disease). PLS and life expectancy. PLS is often misdiagnosed by neurolog...

shadow watching | mindful photos

26 Miles 4 MND. As I was getting dressed this morning I listened to the CD “Popular Problems” by Leonard Cohen that I’d borrowed off my dad. The album artwork makes great use of shadows and that and Cohen’s inevitably deep and melancholy lyrics got me thinking about how we all have a shadow side. I’m not embarrassed to say that I’ve had bouts of depression in the past – If Winston Churchill could admit it then so can I! Here are some of my “shadow pictures” –. Shadows, capes and gates by the River Severn.
