Faraway Places

Friday, 17 September 2010. End of the Summer. The end of the Summer. One of my favourite times of the year. Time to hunt in your wardrobe for those hoodies that you adore and that save you from the sometimes bitter early morning chill and time to find your fingerless gloves for morning explores with the doggy. Every year, autumn comes and I find myself making preparations for the winter. Friday, 14 May 2010. Long Time, No Winter. Fishing on a calm, very cold December morning. Thursday, 15 October 2009.

Faraway Places: A long time gone.

http://felicitywood.blogspot.com/2009/09/long-time-gone.html

Saturday, 5 September 2009. A long time gone. As I sit down to write my blog post today, I feel a sense of coming home. I have not written in ages! My camera has not been idle by any means however. I have had many opportunities to excercise my artistic side which has made me very happy of late. There are always pictures to be taken beside the sea and that is maybe why I love it so much. it can be picturesque whatever its mood and I never care which sort of mood that might be. 9 September 2009 at 18:09.

Nebraska Outback: History

http://www.outbacknebraska.com/2012/11/history.html

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Thursday, November 15, 2012. I can't thank the folks who went to so much trouble to edit these books enough. And those who took the time to write the stories of their personal families and submit them. They are treasure troves of local history. I hope you will find these as fascinating and thought-provoking as I do. To give credit where credit is due, here are the folks who worked so hard to make these books possible:. Writers: Marilyn Humphre...

Excerpted from the Sutherland Centennial 1891 – 1991, published in 1991. Later in his teens he returned to Sutherland and joined his father in the carpentry business. Through the years Ernest helped to build the Lutheran Church, the Methodist Church, the High School, the Hospital, several family homes in the area and a home for the family on Pine Street. Through all these hard...

Nebraska Outback: December 2014

http://www.outbacknebraska.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Looking Forward, Looking Backward. My New Years resolution for 2014 was to have more adventures, and I'm pretty sure that I accomplished my goal! January of 2014 started off mile for winter in Nebraska, and my year started off with a walk around the Sutherland Reservoir Wall and thinking about what the year would bring. That explains a lot! Summer always brings more "doing" and less "telling". We are busy havi...

Nebraska Outback: Know Nebraska: Chimney Rock

http://www.outbacknebraska.com/2015/07/know-nebraska-chimney-rock.html

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Know Nebraska: Chimney Rock. If you are roadtripping anywhere in western Nebraska, a detour and a stop at Chimney Rock. Is a must. There is no more iconic symbol of Nebraska (I rank it even higher than Memorial Stadium and the Sower on top of the capitol! To see it is easy – take Highway 26 east from Scottsbluff. Or west from Bridgeport. Other sites are managed by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. If you look cl...

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Sunday, July 19, 2015. Sunday Stories: Skip and Anita Elfeldt. I have been sharing with you the family stories of the AB Bert Snyder family. Bert and Grace Snyder's daughter Alberta "Bertie" married Glenn Elfeldt of Sutherland. Their son, "Skip" was chosen as the Grand Marshall of the Sutherland 4th of July Parade this past week. Anita said that after she had her children, she always thought she might go back to teaching, but never did. Skip a...

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Know Nebraska: Dobby's Frontier Town. Nebraska is full of unique attractions, and Dobby's Frontier Town. In Alliance, ranks right up there at the top. When you're from a state rich in natural beauty, important history and western heritage, yet lacking the signature "mountains or beaches" that constitutes, in the minds of some, a destination, you get very creative in celebrating what you have. There is a straw bale ho...

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Sunday, May 31, 2015. Sunday Stories: Buffalo on His Range is Nothing New to Bert Snyder. One of the challenges of trying to piece together cohesive family stories from the local history books is that you find them in lots of different places throughout the books! I came across this retelling of a story first appearing in the local Tryon newspaper in 1936. Excerpted from the McPherson County: Facts, Families, Fiction; Established in 1890.

Nebraska Outback: Sunday Stories: William F. Elfeldt

http://www.outbacknebraska.com/2015/08/sunday-stories-william-f-elfeldt.html

Celebrating everything wonderful about calling Nebraska home. Sunday, August 9, 2015. Sunday Stories: William F. Elfeldt. In recounting the history of the Snyder family in Lincoln and McPherson counties, I touched on the Elfeldt family, as one daughter, Alberta "Bertie", married Sutherland's Glenn Elfeldt and they made their home here their entire lives. That prompted this series recounting the origins of the Elfeldt family in our community. In October 1911, William and his wife, Minnie, along with Arthu...

That’s me. My real job is teaching, however am always telling the children I teach that when I grow up I want to be an artist. So I am finally (after much nagging) going to do something about it, just in case I do grow up eventually. I live on the Isle of Man and I love the sea. To be specific I love kayaking on the sea, paddling in the sea and throwing stones in the sea. The sea hasn’t inspired all my work, but certainly much of my textile and greetings card work has a feel of the sea about it.
