Wargle: Looking for a backup system (maybe)
http://wargle.blogspot.com/2013/07/looking-for-backup-system-maybe.html
A blog, no more need be said. Saturday, July 06, 2013. Looking for a backup system (maybe). I'm not trying to solve the general backup problem, this is pretty much for files that do not change once written (although their metadata or importance may change). I want to be able to do something like. Absorb - tag personal-documents - delete-when-safe tax-return-2013.pdf. Does this exist already? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Looking for a backup system (maybe). Letter to the editor. Drag me to hell.

Wargle: Nobody steals wood in Japan
http://wargle.blogspot.com/2013/02/nobody-steals-wood-in-japan.html
A blog, no more need be said. Sunday, February 17, 2013. Nobody steals wood in Japan. This is a photo of a wood warehouse near my home on a Sunday afternoon. It's closed, has been since Saturday or maybe even Friday. Can you see anything to stop all that wood being stolen? No you can't because there's nothing. This has puzzled me for over a year. It's not a busy street and they don't close it up any further at night time. Or maybe they are. The police are incredibly vigilant and effective. Drag me to hell.

A blog, no more need be said. Friday, January 04, 2013. Fuck you Irish newspapers. The story of how Irish newspapers are performing ballistic amputation of their own feet is gathering steam. They think they can charge sites to link directly to articles on their websites. A good summary is here. Http:/ www.thejournal.ie/readme/newspapers-charges-linking-ireland-740093-Jan2013/. Which will generate an anki deck with images and audio snippets and it works under wine but it actually is a little bit heavy for what I want. First, you need to know what track has your subs. Will tell you that. Then after that you can use the following bash script (you'll need to install. You can invoke it as e.g. Drag me to hell.

A blog, no more need be said. Sunday, July 06, 2014. Hotpot without the hot or the pot. Back to the same place again (麻辣湯 - malatang). This time I remembered to take a photo before. Eating it all (harder than it looks). This time I went for 激辛, the highest on their spicy scale and it still wasn't that spicy. I might be getting the "foreigners don't like spicy" treatment, I don't know. I'll ask to go off the scale next time. Http:/ s.tabelog.com/tokyo/A1305/A130504/13165158/. Links to this post.

Wargle: Delivering mail from my home server to gmail
http://wargle.blogspot.com/2014/02/delivering-mail-from-my-home-server-to.html
A blog, no more need be said. Sunday, February 16, 2014. Delivering mail from my home server to gmail. Mostly a note to myself. My ISP in Japan (OCN) blocks port 25 outgoing. It provides a relay host smtp.blue.ocn.ne.jp. But it drops things if they have a dodgy looking from address. So I set up a postfix rewrite rule to make all of my mail from this server look like it was coming from my gmail account. This seems to make OCNs SMTP relay happy. Smtp generic maps = regexp:/etc/postfix/generic.

Wargle: AsRock Q1900DC and laptop power adapters
http://wargle.blogspot.com/2014/10/asrock-q1900dc-and-laptop-power-adapters.html
A blog, no more need be said. Wednesday, October 08, 2014. AsRock Q1900DC and laptop power adapters. I couldn't find any concrete recommendations but I now know that the DC in fits the adapter of a Toshiba Dynabook Satellite T210 but since that adapter is needed for the laptop, I had to buy another. In my local shop the Toshiba replacements were expensive so I bought an adapter for a Panasonic Toughbook (it came with 2 different size jacks). So they also work. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A blog, no more need be said. Saturday, May 04, 2013. ASUS RT-N66U, PPPoE and OCN. Quick note on this in case anyone runs into the same thing. I got a one of these. Http:/ www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/. When it checked for firmware upgrades it found "3.0.0.4.260" but that would not connect to OCN no matter what I did. In the end I noticed that "3.0.0.4.270" was available, installed that and OCN worked immediately. No special settings needed, just username and password. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
