Story To Tell - Postgresql 8.4 Recursive Queries
http://old.storytotell.org/blog/2009/08/11/postgresql84-recursive-queries.html
Postgresql 8.4 Recursive Queries. Posted by Daniel Lyons on August 11, 2009. Apparently I missed the news: PostgreSQL 8.4 came out on July 1st! This release brings two new features and greatly improves one old feature. This post will be about recursive queries using. With the following table:. Unfortunately, from an implementation perspective, this structure sucks for doing many common operations: computing a string version of a path, for example, or listing all the descendants under a given node. Th...

Posted by Daniel Lyons on September 11, 2009. Is a tool to render CSV into tables of various formats, including HTML, tbl, and character art (both ASCII and Unicode). What motivated me to write this was discovering the way sexy cool UTF8 box characters. They appear to render really well in Apple’s new Menlo font at least substantially better than they do in Microsoft’s Consolas font which was my previous fave. They seem to have a lot in common. It also does HTML and tbl(1). As I was making my little char...

Tablify is a simple program I wrote to convert CSV files into various displayable formats. At the moment it supports four different output formats: HTML, tbl(1). As well as text art for ASCII and Unicode encodings. Yes, I actually do enough with CSV files this is handy. An example of each output method, given the following CSV file. Name,Age,Favorite Language,Quote Daniel Lyons,28,Haskell,"Try, try again" Reid "The Man" Givens,29,CSS,"I am not a programmer" $ tablify -H testdata.csv. Try, try again.
Story To Tell - List Zippers in Haskell and Prolog
http://old.storytotell.org/blog/2007/08/07/list-zippers-in-haskell-and-prolog.html
List Zippers in Haskell and Prolog. Posted by Daniel Lyons on August 6, 2007. Earlier today I thought I’d solidify my understanding of zippers, at least with lists. I’m pretty eluded by the concept for other data structures for right now but I’m liking the idea of it for lists (though not exactly seeing the whole point of it yet). So I wrote up a quick implementation in Haskell included here:. I realized it might be handy to have that be a functor so I can. It, so I added a couple more lines:. Baird and ...
