Fiber Geekery: February 2013

http://fibergeekery.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 3, 2013. Immersion Dyeing - My Way. There are many ways to do immersion dyeing of wool fiber to get a semi solid color. I thought I would share my way of doing it. This method originated from a way that Carol Lee at The. Does her dyeing. I saw it on the Yahoo Group, Dye Happy some time ago. TURN OFF THE HEAT. Is the heat off? If so, you can squeeze out the fiber and add it to the pot of very hot water and dye stock. Push it down into the stock and let it sit there for five minutes or...

Fiber Geekery: I Can't Hear You

http://fibergeekery.blogspot.com/2010/09/i-cant-hear-you.html

Thursday, September 9, 2010. I Can't Hear You. Handspun sorted by color - Sept 2010. Yesterday, we had torrential downpours of rain. I was determined to go to my regular spinning group, so I braved the elements and loaded up my wheel and spinning basket and set off. I did not get very far though, because the roads going north to the highway I needed all seemed to be closed. Well, it is still there. I must be deaf. September 9, 2010 at 8:53 PM. Whatever you do with this yarn, it will be gorgeous! I am a F...

Fiber Geekery: Calculate Twice, Weave Once

http://fibergeekery.blogspot.com/2011/04/calculate-twice-weave-once.html

Friday, April 22, 2011. Calculate Twice, Weave Once. The Fort Worth Weaver's Guild. Is having a napkin exchange. The napkins are supposed to be 18" x 18" square. We turn in four napkins and get four back that are not our own. Strickler 8 Shaft Patterns number 315-4. I have been fretting over this project for a few months, and when the deadline drew closer I got busy and wove mine in a twill pattern from Carol Strickler's book of 8 Shaft patterns. The draft is on page 85 of her book and is number 315-4.

Fiber Geekery: December 2009

http://fibergeekery.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 31, 2009. Weaving from the Viking Era. My third project from the Fall 2009. Issue of Handwoven Magazine. Is off the loom and has been distributed as Christmas Gifts to a few special relatives and friends. The Viking Era Twill Towels were a big hit and were some of my best weaving to date. The towels are from 2/8 Cotton set at 24 epi. This made a firm fabric which should be perfect for the job they need to do. All in all this was a fun project that inched me along the learning curve to ...

I’m Mary, and my world is all about Fiber! Laquo; Family Fun and Lessons Learned. We’ve Moved our Cyber-Space Home! The View From My Window. March 18, 2010 by fancyfibers. It’s been a great week to be outside. Right now I’m looking at a cow who has wandered over from the pasture next door into the not-yet-being-used part of our land. That’s okay by me. Cows gotta eat, too. Here are a few other things I have seen in the last week. My Blooming Peach Tree. Big Bertha, Before. Big Bertha, After. I am a lot o...

TWISTED IN TEXAS: September 2010

http://twistedintexas-cordovasstudios.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Labels: Country Dijon mustard. Saturday, September 18, 2010. Super Warm Dye Days: Part 1. Wonder what the neighbors think? This is what it looked like about six last night. I think I will use less water next time for more more uneven-ness. I haven't checked it this morning. Main color is Jacquard "Violet". The sidebars are ProChem "Key Lime" and "Apricot". I think this one is going to be great fun to knit. Tuesday, September 14, 2010. This thing blows my mind. It syncs up...

Monday, April 16, 2012. So many projects: Cardigans, Scarves. Originally written October sometime, 2011. I have been AWOL for months sidelined with pesky health issues.). I left Michigan with a sheaf of patterns in my "project ideas" folder. Here it is all finished). I have the Cynthia Too Sampler scarf queued with some Fleece Artist soft stuff. Can't wait for that. Here is the shop sample. I'm basically copying it, 'cause I love the pink. Not enough hours in the day! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

TWISTED IN TEXAS: March 2011

http://twistedintexas-cordovasstudios.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Friday, March 4, 2011. As if Facebook, Ravelry, and even my Google Reader, don't suck up time, now on-line bargains hit my inbox every day with super deals. Who else is hooked on Groupon, Living Social, Haute Look, Rue La La, Zulily and Gilt Groupe? Those are some of the coupons. Some things you have to buy quickly as they sell out. Snagged my mighty little Cusinart electric handmixer as soon as the sale opened. It sold out within an hour. Whew. I, of course, desperately needed it. Speaking of grandkids,...

TWISTED IN TEXAS: July 2011

http://twistedintexas-cordovasstudios.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 10, 2011. Up North Floral Abundance. Part of the summer glory up in Northern Michigan includes amazing, bright flowers. The grand porch above wraps around a rambling manse on Beach Drive. There are about nine of these boxes adorning it. Ok, this is not a box, but a garden that I gravitate toward every year. Great perennials mixed with annuals to enjoy all summer. In Harbor Springs, one of the galleries has these geraniums with all the trailing white blossoms. Sunday, July 3, 2011. Thursday n...

TWISTED IN TEXAS: Harbor Skies

http://twistedintexas-cordovasstudios.blogspot.com/2011/07/harbor-skies.html

Sunday, July 3, 2011. Thursday night Harbor Springs hosted a Gallery Walk that included ten or twelve art galleries serving up great art, blown glass and sculpture. But, to me the great art was upstaged by the cloud patterns that night accented by the quaint architecture of Main Street. How can you not love the festive evening with a stage set such as this? Oh, and did I mention it was a perfectly delightful 75 degrees as we strolled with streets with our glasses of Chardonnay? Shop at Cordova Studios.

Fibres For Ewe: April 2009

http://fibres4ewe.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Swine Flu and Sock Machines. Who would've thought that we would be having to educate ourselves about the Swine flu? Today life in the state of Texas has been interesting, to say the least. One small town, south of Fort Worth, is actually shutting down its schools and daycare facilities. They have also cancelled many city activities and sports games. They have 3 cases. Have you ever seen a sock machine? Here are two antique sock machines! Do I want one? Sunday, April 26, 2009.

Fibres For Ewe: July 2008

http://fibres4ewe.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 21, 2008. Well, here we go again. Bugs! Texas should be the Bug state, not the Lone Star State. Just kidding, but I think some folks might agree with me. Anyway, did you know, there are all kinds of grasshoppers? I remember as a child being so excited to see a grasshopper! Notice this guy is really colorful, so if you like bugs or have kids that like bugs, they will enjoy this picture. Me, I am not crazy about bugs anymore. Well, maybe he was trying out for the Olympics. Friday, July 11, 2008.

Adventures in Fiber

Monday, July 3, 2017. Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Guess who has an etsy shop. Thursday, June 24, 2010. I just loved this photo, so I had to post it. It's Merino/Cashmere roving I dyed in shades of pink and navy and purple and then carded into batts. Next up is some 50/50 Merino/Silk in greens. I've got some lovely glitz to add to this one. Monday, May 26, 2008. And finally a flicked lock. This stuff is so soft I just want to roll around in it. This is the way I wash my fleece. Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

Aug 7th, 2012 at 6:40 AM. Grammar and word use. Random thought of the weekend:. We were watching a Mythbusters episode Sunday on Hollywood bullet myths. If the Lone Ranger shot silver bullets does that mean he was tracking werewolves in the old west? Or since they consistently fired off to the right of true aim, was he compensating for a traumatic head injury/eye damage from the original attack that almost killed him and made him the Lone Ranger? Fiber Geekery

Tuesday, October 6, 2015. We recently relocated from North Texas to Central Texas, and had to say goodbye to many friends. This project evolved from a need to stay in touch with one of them. My friend and I decided that we would both teach ourselves to free motion quilt. Our guidance was from Leah Day's Building Blocks Quilt. Neither of us quite finished that weekend, but we both finished our quilts in the following couple of weeks. Links to this post. Labels: Leah Day Building Blocks Quilt. You will nee...
