Friday, May 30, 2014. I Love Alexander McCall Smith's Novels. Have read nearly all of Alexander McCall Smith's novels. It's simple, as revealed in this Globe and Mail interview. 8220;I don’t have to think,” he says of his writing. “I go into sort of a trance.”. And Trains and Lovers. My goal is to read them all (with the possible exception of his legal tome on Botwana's laws). ; - ) They are that good. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). RSS Subscribe Clyo's Blog. Saturday, August 21, 2010. Call For Manuscripts From Penguin U.K. LWS member Ruth Zavitz sent me this notice that she saw from Penguin U.K. In the notice the publisher says it will accept manuscripts directly from writers if they are sent electronically. The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2010. Penguin normally will not even look at a manuscript unless it is brought in by an agent. They do not normally solicit manuscripts from the public, so this notice is unusual. This is a great opportunity if...

Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Fringe Words 2010: A Hoot. This year the London Writers Society paired up with the London Fringe Festival to bring Fringe Words back to the festival. If you did not attend Fringe Words 2010, you missed a good time and some great stories, all of which were linked through associations (real or imagined) with London, Ontario. Hosted by LWS president Richard Nagel, this was what you missed. Labels: fringe words 2010. Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Who cannot relate, no matter what your age?

Friday, June 08, 2012. Another B t Night In S k City: A Memoir by Nick Flynn. Well, you can see I chickened out and did not spell out the title of Nick Flynn's memoir in my title line. The name of this memoir is Another Bull* *t Night In Suck City. Chickened out again. What can I say? It's not a title that rolls off my tongue or fingers, especially since I am not willing to try and research Google's policy in regard to posting swear words on Blogger. In short, I do not want my blog censored. It touches u...

Clyo's Blog: Nuit Blanche: the far, far, far fun edge of Fringe
http://clyobeck.blogspot.com/2012/06/nuit-blanche-far-far-far-fun-edge-of.html
Sunday, June 17, 2012. Nuit Blanche: the far, far, far fun edge of Fringe. Today's the last day of the London Fringe Festival. Saw only five shows; meant to see more, but that's how it went this year. Planning to see Bookworm. Tonight, which has been on my "must see" list. Fortunately it's the Impressario Show for venue 7 tonight, so I should have a chance to get a ticket, provided I arrive early enough. Another "must see" was Debris. Here's to you, Eva - wishing you a speedy and complete recovery! The f...

Monday, June 18, 2012. Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Finished accompanying Thomas Cromwell in his incredible rise to power in Tudor England via Hilary Mantels Wolf Hall. What a great ride. The tale is fascinating, the narrative is lyric and descriptions are often beautiful. Heres a tiny sample (from page 541) of how Mantel infuses poetry into the narrative descriptions of Cromwells perceptions:. Labels: audio recording wolf hall. Sunday, June 17, 2012. Sunday, March 13, 2011. Highly Recommended: Passionfool Play "Terrorism" Thru March 26 2011. Highly Recommended: Passionfool Theatre's production of the play "Terrorism" currently at The Arts Project. I went to the matinee on Saturday - reluctantly - because I judged the title as depressing and was, frankly, afraid of the material. If my step kids hadn't given me a subscription to the Passionfool season, I wouldn't have gone. As it was, I dragged my heels going there, but - surprise! Subscribe to: Posts ...

Clyo's Blog: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
http://clyobeck.blogspot.com/2012/06/best-exotic-marigold-hotel.html
Thursday, June 07, 2012. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Saw The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. At the Rainbow Cinemas and loved it. Full of humour and substance, everything about it pleased me: the cinematography, the storyline, the characters, the acting, the ending, and even the price. Of note, there was an attempt in 2005 to liberate rickshaw pullers in Kolkata from the colonial practice of using hand-pulled rickshaws to transport people. However, according to The Indian Express. Since not one rickshaw ...
