Repairs to the Hardanger Fiddle require an understanding of the instrument. Repairs must be done in such a way as to maintain the integrity and character of the instrument. Pegs can be problematic. As the Hardanger Fiddle peg itself is often a work of art it must be preserved and used if at all possible. Replacement with standard violin pegs is not a desirable option. National Folk Instrument of Norway. More information about Hardingfele's can be found at the Hardanger Fiddle Association of America (HFAA) web site. There are many tunings for the Hardingfele. A very common tuning is E A D A with the whole instrument raised at least a full pitch. The under strings are often tuned A F# E D with the A and D being the same pitch as the upper A and D. My alternatively shaped instrument is called the VIOLYNN. The violynn is an acoustical alternative to the classically shaped violin. It has been designed to be aesthetically pleasing while retaining the elements for good sound production. I use Engleman Spruce or Sitka Spruce for the top wood.
