Birdland West: Birds Do It
http://birdlandwest.blogspot.com/2012/04/birds-do-it.html
Sentient beings are numberless .". This is a Wildlife Photography Blog. Thursday, April 12, 2012. It seems to be Finch Spring this year around my neighborhood. Last week I mentioned the Pine Siskins. Who have been all over the feeders, and the familiar House Finch couple. I've never watched, let along captured mating behavior in my front yard before. These two House Sparrows are definitely working on love, though. And finally, after all that excitement, it's time to eat. If you see an image here that doe...

Sentient beings are numberless .". This is a Wildlife Photography Blog. Monday, March 26, 2012. Where You Least Expect Them. After a protracted struggle (it actually snowed on St. Patrick’s Day at my house! Spring seems to be gaining the upper hand around Seattle. The last few days have been wonderful – and I’ve gone on two long walks with my dogs this week. Good to be out and about again. But I disappointed myself with my unwillingness to brave the cold and dark in search of birds. A couple of days ago,...

Sentient beings are numberless .". This is a Wildlife Photography Blog. Monday, April 23, 2012. Why do they happen? But, in regards to the birds in my front yard - at least the one's I was writing about specifically - those questions might be moot. Because, this past weekend, I took these photos in my front yard. This is my male Goldfinch - looking at the molting spots on his back and neck I was pretty sure that he was the same bird I photographed last week. He was in the Cherry tree. Still, there have b...
Birdland West: November 2011
http://birdlandwest.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Sentient beings are numberless .". This is a Wildlife Photography Blog. Sunday, November 6, 2011. Accepting the Birds that Come. It is currently 39 degrees and sunny in Seattle, but I'm sitting here at my desk in a heavy coat because my dogs want to have access to the front deck. Sigh. Starling and Sparrow, familiar visitors, in an uncommon mutual pose. Beautiful rich colors make this Junco stand out. A distinctive mostly white Pigeon surveys the deck. Like the Four Stooges having lunch. Has been hosting...

Sentient beings are numberless .". This is a Wildlife Photography Blog. Friday, September 23, 2011. Where to from Here? It's been about six months since I started this blog - it seems so much longer. Spring (which never really got on its feet this year) was just " heating up. Zeke's first day home. When I started the blog I did it for a number of reasons - the most important of which are spelled out on my " About. I've done a couple of guest posts for 10000 Birds. ( Consider the Chickadee. Meanwhile, I k...

Notes from the Natural World. Who is this guy? The End Of A Bluebird (And The Start of Everything Else). I found a dead bluebird in a nest box by the barn. She lay intact, her head and neck crooked in the corner of the box where she died. Cool blue. A bit of sky enclosed in a pine box. There were no nest materials with her, though there had been much activity in and about the box in the preceding days as a bluebird pair sparred with a couple of house sparrows for residency. The Alchemy Of April. The firs...
