Field Acquisitions: March 2013
http://fieldacquisitions.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Wednesday, March 13, 2013. Teen Summer Reading - The Plan! The coworker I split teen responsibilities with is leaving the library before summer starts - it's good for her and her family but I'm going to miss her because our minds were in the same place on a lot of things and, after working in 2 libraries where I was the only person doing teen services, it was so nice to share the job with someone else. Kickoff - Duct Tape Creations. Pizza and a Movie. One of my...
Field Acquisitions: July 2013
http://fieldacquisitions.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Professional Envy, Programming, and Summer Reading Club. It's been a challenging summer. Part of it is simply trying to do a lot of things with not a lot of time at work. But another part - maybe the bigger part - is still wondering whether and how librarianship is still the right place for me to be in a career. Giving it to them). The work I need to do. I need to just sit. And wrap my brain around everything. What is failure anyway?
Field Acquisitions: October Displays
http://fieldacquisitions.blogspot.com/2013/10/october-displays.html
Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Thursday, October 3, 2013. I've got two big programs for teens in October - I consider "Teen Read Week" to be a month-long celebration for a variety of time and energy related reasons - and I'll write about them when they're over. But in the mean time, I thought I'd share the displays I've got in the teen department for October. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Field Acquisitions: Chocolate Olympics & Death by Chocolate
http://fieldacquisitions.blogspot.com/2011/07/chocolate-olympics-death-by-chocolate.html
Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Monday, July 25, 2011. Chocolate Olympics and Death by Chocolate. While last week I talked about programs that didn't. Today I'm going to share two programs I did (that were essentially the same thing) that ran me about $90 together. For drawing 60 kids, I think the cost was definitely worth it, but I think this is the kind of program that could probably be modified in many ways to be cheaper. 15 different types of candy bars (you can use more or less). 1 famil...
Field Acquisitions: Revisiting and Revising a Teen Program: The Chocolate Wars
http://fieldacquisitions.blogspot.com/2013/10/revisiting-and-revising-teen-program.html
Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Thursday, October 17, 2013. Revisiting and Revising a Teen Program: The Chocolate Wars. This week, I ran what was my most successful teen program event in my career. We had 40 teens show up on a Tuesday evening at the library. It was unbelievable. And awesome. And completely overwhelming and exhausting - but in a good way. First, I should note that this is not. So what did we do this time and how did we do it? A few packages of dark chocolate Hershey bars.

http://readmrsd.blogspot.com/2012/03/its-spring.html
Putting smiles on faces :). A newly-minted children's librarian shares her adventures in the storytime room. Well, it was spring when I was reading these stories! We had a week and a half of very unusual weather for March in this part of the Midwest - several days we had temperatures in the 80's! This morning, however, it was less than 40. back to reality! I asked the children if they knew what season it was? What season brings all the flowers out? This book is more of a poem than it is a proper story, b...

Putting smiles on faces :). A newly-minted children's librarian shares her adventures in the storytime room. So here it is - my BIG news! 1 I am getting my own domain and taking this whole blogging business to the next level. I am working with a friend (who just happens to be the former webmaster at the ABA) to put all the places I try to put myself out there in ONE place - namely lizdelzell.com. It's not quite ready yet, but it should be up and running for the new school year. Which is important because.

Putting smiles on faces :). A newly-minted children's librarian shares her adventures in the storytime room. A bunny-focused storytime seemed appropriate for this week. :) I tried not to mention Easter at all as it's not necessarily a holiday that everyone celebrates, but it tended to come up organically. I definitely acknowledged it but kept our focus on the hoppy, floppy bunnies in our stories. Five Funny Bunnies: Three Bouncing Tales. By Jean Van Leeuwen. Three quick bunny stories housed in one book?

Library ideas gained outside the classroom. Friday, December 20, 2013. This was a really interesting year in work for me. I'm part-time (by choice) and the bulk of my responsibility has been reference work, with a side of helping plan and run programs, as well as selecting teen fiction and non-fiction for the library. It hasn't been an easy transition but I've tried to work with it. Now with the year wrapping up, I thought reflecting a bit on those changes was worthwhile. Over the course of this year, I:.
